July 3, 200421 yr Boy, I'm sure glad I didn't try this service :-) . There are five HDD's installed in this box and I have "stuff" scattered all over the place. As far as Norton goes, I ran it for years and never noticed any impact on any version of MSFS. (I, too, finally dumped it. But only because it's a lousy virus program not for any other reason.) And, yes, DirectX, chipset drivers, and BIOS settings DO matter. In fact, these are the "thingies" that most folks know nothing about and need the most help with. Funny things these computers.....Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. July 3, 200421 yr The recommended virus program was Nod32, and I feel it is a very good program.I hope that my information has been of some use to people, it is always nice to get some balance on things, as the feedback was definatly one-sided, but I am not for one minute saying the existing feedback from happy clients is unjustified. It (the service) just had no real benifit to meI also want to state something about disabling services, do not disable services willy nilly, if you do not understand what a said service does, leave it alone, you can do some damage this wayCheersDan.
July 3, 200421 yr interesting, did you check out the link I included above to "avast". It claims the exact honor you mentioned in your earlier email. Funny, huh!B
July 3, 200421 yr Did you ever have the problem with "blurry" terrain and did this session improve/make it worse ?Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
July 3, 200421 yr Interesting. When I finally dumped Norton I did a LOT of research on AV programs. The result - NOD32. I couldn't believe how many virus files Norton missed. NOD32 is, indeed, a good recommendation. (And for a trojan scanner/remover I'd look to TDS-3).Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. July 3, 200421 yr I noticed that NOD took up twice the resources of AVG, and then there was this notice as attached.First off, I DO have a default mail client...Eudora. Secondly, I wouldn't use Outlook if I were paid to do so.
July 3, 200421 yr Dan:"I understand that I could get attacked, flamed, whatever for saying this, but this is MY honest opinion, and I would appreciate that people accept that."Well, I can't imagine why someone would flame you. Sounds like good information to me. Although I got a GREAT improvement from my session, I obviously don't have the level of expertise that you do. I had tried every tweak posted at AVSIM -- twice :-) ! As a result of some of those tweaks that were completely wrong, my system was not performing properly. With the wide range of technical skills by simmers, I can imagine that some, like you, would benefit very little, if any, from the service. Others, like me, have seen vast improvements. What WOULD have surprised and disappointed me is if Michael had insisted that you pay!Wilson
July 3, 200421 yr "What WOULD have surprised and disappointed me is if Michael had insisted that you pay!"I, too would have been surprised. I've shared some private e-mails, and in one case a telephone call, from FS-GS customers and they've all been happy. And there was never any insistance that the customer pay unless (s)he was happy.Greg
July 3, 200421 yr BTW, what's the latest recommendation - having FS files compressed or not ?. I know once upon a time someone made big headlines by discovering that when you compress your MSFS folders it will results in much smoother performance ..Michael J. Michael J.
July 3, 200421 yr Hi Dan,Thank you very much for posting this. I thought I had my machine running real good then I read Chris's message and I decided to follow some of his suggestions. All I can say is "Wow", what a big improvement to my machine. I have just about everything cranked up and the program never preformed so well. Thanks Chris!Ed
July 3, 200421 yr OK, whatever floats your boat. But I wouldn't blame NOD32 for an issue with a non-MAPI compliant e-mail program :-).Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. July 3, 200421 yr Is it necessary to have Tweak-XP running in order for the tweaks to work, or can I just make the changes and restart the computer and not load it again after restart?-Mikkel
July 3, 200421 yr Just make your changes and restart. You don't have to have leave TweakXP running.Jim
