Still having problems

Featured Replies

Guys my problems with mce still persist after purchasing, had no luck with the demo but took the chance anyways, here are my problems, First in the general section of the UI I cannot select or deselect any of the options, I just want to use the program for rc4 for now anyways, Second when it prompts me for my rc4 path it does not save it, it keeps prompting me over and over again, Im using it over a network and I did add the following to my mce ini file located in the appdata roaming location.

[ATC]

UseRadioNoise=1

SecondaryNeedAtcWindow=0

atc1=1

atc2=0

atc3=1

atc4=1

atc5=0

UseRadarContact=1

IgnoreRC4Registry=1

Hello Ian,

The mce.ini to be edited is the one under C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Multi Crew Experience\ folder and not the one in \Multi Crew Experience\ installation folder.

Because the latest version adds a few options to the mce.ini, please restore to factory settings as follows.

Click Start->All Programs->Multi Crew Experience->Tools->Restore factory settings.

Te next time you start MCE you’ll be prompted to run the application wizard. Please do so, but you can skip the speech-training bit.

After that go to your user mce.ini, and set these options ON

UseRadarContact=1

IgnoreRC4Registry=1

While you are there, check that the file mce.ini is not somehow locked in read-only mode.

Do not interact with the MCE UI while it’s sitting on top of the simulator. You only need it now and then to set your preferences.

Once you have supplied a valid network path to rcv4.exe, MCE will save it to mce.ini.

Thanks but no luck, still unable to select any option in the general settings, they all remain with an X in the box, and the same problem with rc4, I select the path then it says rc4 is active, then as soon as I touch the GUI again it prompts me to enter the rc4 path again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several time, I am editing the correct mce ini, and its not locked or in read only.

I once heard of such behaviour. The user was using a pen for input and not the mouse. Is it the case?

There is a way to disable those options via mce.ini

ExecuteCaptainOrders=0

ReadCheckListWhenAsked=0

PilotSpeaksToAtc=1

CopilotReportsFailures=0

EnableInterfaceVoice=0

These settings will leave you with just the ATC feature selected.

Im just using a mouse, so Im not going to able to use the GUI? and what about this rc4 path problem, here is a pic, I select the rc4 path it says its active there is a reset defaults label and underneath that there is a activated label which is greyed out, I have rc4 running and try to say synce rc4 data but nothing, then as soon as I touch the screen with my mouse I get prompted for the path again.

Thanks for posting the screenshot.

It is providing the missing clue.

In order to manage the thousands of voice commands available to the user, MCE disables and enables some speech rules depending on the context.

For example when in “DIALOG MODE”, all commands for interacting with FO are suspended and those for interacting with FSX dialog boxes are enabled. The opposite happens when you are in FLIGHT MODE.

Ideally MCE should switch back and forth between DIALOG MODE and FLIGHT MODE depending on whether a dialog box is displayed or not.

If for some reason MCE UI says “DIALOG MODE” in amber font at the top (as per screenshot) and FSX is clearly in “Flight Mode” (aircraft ready to fly), you need to override this as follows.

Right-click anywhere on the user interface, then select “Force flight mode” from the drop down menu.

With aircraft ready to fly, you should see “Co-pilot listening on… whatever_aircraft” or “Ian flying Solo on… whatever_aircraft” depending on which options are selected.

Should be able to interact with the UI using the mouse.

Ok that worked, I can use the GUI and it saved my rc4 path, however still having a few more issues, Im on the ground at CYXS Im trying to do a flight to KJAC, my ptt button is #10 on my ch yoke, I have to ask ground for my clearance, I press the button and say grd canjet 1976 request ifr clearance to jackson hole, nothing happens, I press the ptt button again but it seems to stick, (I can hear the static noise beep and its stuck on) then then for some reason the default atc windows starts to pop up and flash, which is funny because its disabled in the fsx settings, then there seems to be some sort of rougue button command going off, this one```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````, if I open up a ie browser window while fsx and mce are running it just goes crazy with the ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` . I really don't know whats going on, any suggestions.

OK, you’re on the right way.

Because RC4 is running through the network, you need to check a few things to make sure MCE is really switched to use RC4 and not default ATC.

Go back to mce.ini in AppData folder, and under [ATC] section, make sure “Mode=RC4” and not “Mode=Native” or other.

Temporarily enable the real crew coordination feature (Co-pilot function).

Go to <Command> tab of the user interface, click <Change> button next to the FO voice.

A new window will appear.

Select TTS voices at the top, and pick-up Microsoft Anna from the list and select OK.

This will assign Anna as FO voice, and it’s just for the purpose of checking the following things.

Ask Anna “what is our call sign?”. She should reply with the call sign as set under RC4 settings on the remote machine, and not the actual FSX (or FS9) aircraft call sign.

Ask Anna “What are the ATC options?”

Anna should be able to read the content of the ATC window at any time.

When Anna reads the options aloud, bearing and distance are skipped on purpose. Pre-recorded voices like Trav, Clive, William cannot speak unpredictable text, that’s why you have to use TTS Anna.

Finally, say “show ATC” and “Hide ATC” to check that MCE can control the RC4 ATC window.

Until these 3 checks are successful, don’t bother trying to transmit. It will not work

One more thing, MCE will read the RC4 settings through the network from the file “rcv3.dat”.

The file will typically have a path to a flight plan. That path will obviously be missing on the local machine.

Therefore you will have to copy the folder containing your flight plans to a location on your FSX machine mirroring the path on your networked machine.

I did what you said seems to be working however I say hide atc and it does but when I say open ATC or Show ATC the window does not come back, also I can't seem to get the voice commands to work, I have tried different flight plans, I get the initial clearance but after that nothing, cant contact tower, center etc etc with out pressing the button on my KB, also how do you get a clearance from an FSS station, you have to call in on a phone, :) Anyways I hope to get this working

Sorry starting to get a little frustrated, this program is not working correctly, I can get my clearance and push back clearance but thats it, if I try to choose a different runway it wont select it, it just takes me to the point of showing all the different runways, thats it, have to use the KB, then it won't let me contact tower have to do it with the keyboard, then it won't let me contact center etc etc, I acknowledge all the handoffs with Roger contact XXX CanJet 1976 but still nothing just a 1 to ack and contact and a 7 to acknowledge

Hmmm i dont use rc4 sorry but lots of people use it with mce.

Have you tried doing the atc voice training just to rule out voice recognition as an issue? Maybe someone who uses rc4 can help out?

I have done the training several times, anyone got a copy of the version prior to the new 2.5? I would like to try that out to see if these issues persist

now when I start it up its says "mikes voice is missing, please reinstall MCE" I give up.

hmm...you do seem to have some config issues there...dont give up just yet, there are lots of people using RC4 with MCE without issues so it can be done

As you can read in the above post, MCE doesn’t just take chances at the menu by sending keyboard key presses. It does actually scrutinise the ATC window menu, in order to make accurate selections.

When requesting a different runway, the one you ask for must be available at that airport.

Example, at JFK you typically get assigned runway 04.

If you wanted runway 22R, say

“Ground Canjet 1976 requesting runway 22R for departure”

“Ground Canjet 1976 requesting runway 22R for takeoff”

“Ground Canjet 1976 would appreciate runway 22R for departure”

“Ground Canjet 1976 would appreciate runway 22R for takeoff”

MCE will then trawl the RC4 menu, until it comes across runway 22R and selects it.

Needless to say if you say…

“Ground Canjet 1976 requesting runway 22 for departure”, you’ll see the runways menu scrolled but nothing will happen simply because there is no runway 22 for departure. It’s either 22L or 22R.

There is a tutorial you can follow.

Click Start->All Programs->Multi Crew Experience->Paper Tutorials->RC4 IFR ATC

You can also perform ATC specific speech training using the provided tool.

Click Start->All Programs->Multi Crew Experience->Tools->Speech training

Select “ATC phraseology” and click start to begin training on NATO alphabet as well as various airline names and runway designators.

now when I start it up its says "mikes voice is missing, please reinstall MCE" I give up.

This can only happen if you set "mce.exe" to run in compatibility mode (as if running under Windows XP).

When you do that, MCE will think you are running XP, and it's only normal it looks for "Mike" (which would be missing under Vista or Windows 7) voice instead of "Anna".

So, first thing to do, revert back to normal operation, and set "mce.exe" to run in native mode.
