July 6, 200421 yr Author "The VC looks OK but it's not really flyable from this view"Whaoa!!! We designed the Scout to be flown almost exclusively from the VC! That's the WHOLE POINT of this aircraft. Hardly any XML 3d gauges update very fast, and you'll find this limitation in many XML programmed gauges. However, we have done a great deal of research and development for the future and I'm pleased to say that our new aircraft will have super-smooth VC gauges, starting with the Spitfire.Jimmie, we ALWAYS reply to e-mails, and usually within minutes if not hours. If you sent an e-mail and it did not get through please send again and I will deal with whatever issues you have.Kind Regards,Rob Young Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
July 6, 200421 yr Yeah, I find it completely flyable from the VC. I almost wouldn't know it if the 2D panel were to dissappear from my installation. Same goes for all the RealAir planes actually... :)
July 6, 200421 yr Rob, I fly for real and I fly from the VC exclusively in FS and you guys did an AWESOME job on all your craft! I especially love the glass look and feel of the gauges! And FINALLY I can slip her into the airstrip!!!Carmine http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/Images/wave.gif
July 6, 200421 yr "Whaoa!!! We designed the Scout to be flown almost exclusively from the VC! That's the WHOLE POINT of this aircraft. "I'm sorry but with the current refreshrate of the gauges, it's simply not possible for me to fly it from the VC in any situation where you need to rely on the instruments (it's fine when just cruising around in VFR conditions). I'd estimate gauge refreshrate about maybe 2 updates/second.I have several other payware aircraft, including your SF-260.The refreshrate of the gauges does vary from aircraft to aircraft. Some feature gauges that move very fluidly, while others are quite jerky and slow to update. The best of the ones I have is the Aerosoft Katana - refreshrate in the VC is essentially the same as for the 2D panel - and - the gauges are razor-sharp. The Dreamfleet and Flight1 aircraft are also very good. The Carenado aircraft are a bit on the slow side but still flyable unless doing an ILS approach or something in which case the VC is kind of pointless anyway.Unfortunately, your Scout is the worst of the bunch by quite a marigin. Just setting prop RPM is a bit dificult because the needle moves so unpredictably and jerky. I usually switch to the 2D view when adjusting the VOR receiver, radio or engine settings, as well as after having lined up on final. I don't find myself doing that with any other FS aircraft. Things actually took a turn for the worse compared to your older SF-260 model which featured reasonably smooth animations. It *is* a great aircraft however and the gauges are very clear and easy to read from the VC (more so than from the 2D view because you can zoom in for an even better view). If it's possible, please consider improving the refreshrate of the gauges after finishing the Spitfire.BTW not sure what happened to that email. Supposed to have been sent on the 30th of May. -
July 6, 200421 yr Hm, I really cannot confirm unusually slow gauge updates in the VC.Besides that, the Scout has been my favorite aircraft since release. I only fly this plane from the VC, love the RealView feature, and especially enjoy the "realistic" feel of the flight model - I have never steered a plane, but all RealAir planes feel very lively, opposed to most other flight models that feel like the plane flies on tracks through the sky. When I compare the Scout to the two other payware bush planes on the market:* FSD Porter: the Porter's 3D model and VC are even more detailed, but the FPS hit is very noticeable on my computer. I guess the flight model is right on the numbers, but personally I feel like it's too easy to handle - I don't sense any kind of challenge landing this plane.* Lago Beaver: Nice exterior, lots of models, but a serious lack in "depth". Cheap default radios and both "classic" and "modern" panels and the same plane are a big distraction for me. Flight model is good, but again not as interesting as the Scout's.IMHO the Scout is the best bush plane available, and it's not surprising if you consider who built it ;)These are just my personal impressions. As I said, I'm not a real pilot. But I've flown dozens of planes in the sim, own most payware props, and try to learn as much from this sim as possible.Just my 2c (EUR),VOlker :]
July 6, 200421 yr "I'd estimate gauge refreshrate about maybe 2 updates/second."Yikes, that's slow. I just checked mine and it's at least twice that fast (like you, this is an estimate), and probably a bit faster than my estimate. That sounds like something is amiss, JimmieG.While it would be nice to have the Scout's VC gauges update as fast as the Katana (the best VC in my hanger), my impression is that the Scout's VC gauges update rate is on average with most aircraft of it's quality.Greg
July 6, 200421 yr Author HI Again Jimmi,Something's definitely up with your system if the update is that slow. The Scout is comparable with similar aircraft in this regard, there are some smoother and some less smooth, and it's all a trade off between gauge clarity, detail and other aircraft graphical complexity.I don't know if you've read the Scout guide but we highly recommend setting gauge quality to "low" in the FS9 display settings. This not only makes the flight model and gauges a little smoother but doesn't make a big hit on actual gauge quality.Rob Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
July 19, 200421 yr Well I finally purchased it!! I had to get some money on the CC, LOLHaven't had time to do much, but I really like it so far. A really nice panel and overall model. I like it for sightseeing my new mesh and landclass from FSGenesis. Thanks RealAir Simulations for another fine product. - Chris Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | Intel Core i9 13900KF | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB | 64GB DDR5 SDRAM | Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling | 1TB & 2TB Samsung Gen 4 SSD | 1000 Watt Gold PSU | Windows 11 Pro | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Thrustmaster TCA Captain X Airbus | Asus ROG 38" 4k IPS Monitor (PG38UQ) Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard | Intel i7 4790k CPU | MSI GTX 970 4 GB video card | Corsair DDR3 2133 32GB SDRAM | Corsair H50 water cooler | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (2) | EVGA 1000 watt PSU - Retired

July 19, 200421 yr I really like it a lot, it's fun to fly around VFR. I do have a question though if you or anyone can answer. Do the window textures take more resources than most? When I switch views with the hat or switch to VC the screen gets very white until it catches up. My frame rates are perfect except for this action, then it kills it for a second. Thanks - Chris Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | Intel Core i9 13900KF | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB | 64GB DDR5 SDRAM | Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling | 1TB & 2TB Samsung Gen 4 SSD | 1000 Watt Gold PSU | Windows 11 Pro | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Thrustmaster TCA Captain X Airbus | Asus ROG 38" 4k IPS Monitor (PG38UQ) Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard | Intel i7 4790k CPU | MSI GTX 970 4 GB video card | Corsair DDR3 2133 32GB SDRAM | Corsair H50 water cooler | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (2) | EVGA 1000 watt PSU - Retired
July 19, 200421 yr Orlaam,If the view goes white for a short moment when you switch to the VC that might mean that you are a bit short on RAM. The VC takes a little more time to display than the default C172 but it's fine for me.You can also try this tip found in the support section of the RealAir website : "switch to low gauge quality in your Display/Aircraft menu. This usually smooths gauge motion, and the gauges will still look crisper than most other aircraft on high gauge quality settings".It might help to display the VC faster. And happy flying !
July 19, 200421 yr Yeah, it's strange going so slow on final. I'm not sure why system wouldn't be able to handle the view switch. I can fly the Flight-1 Meridian and PMDG 737NG just fine with very little performance hit. In the Scout my FPS are a solid 24.8 (locked at 25) and only drop when switching views. They don't drop on final or near other scenery?Either way, it's a minor issue. The plane flies perfect. - Chris Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX | Intel Core i9 13900KF | Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB | 64GB DDR5 SDRAM | Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling | 1TB & 2TB Samsung Gen 4 SSD | 1000 Watt Gold PSU | Windows 11 Pro | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Thrustmaster TCA Captain X Airbus | Asus ROG 38" 4k IPS Monitor (PG38UQ) Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard | Intel i7 4790k CPU | MSI GTX 970 4 GB video card | Corsair DDR3 2133 32GB SDRAM | Corsair H50 water cooler | Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD (2) | EVGA 1000 watt PSU - Retired
July 20, 200421 yr Well I just re-checked. It may be 5 fps, maybe 2. I'm not very good at estimating :)Whatever the refreshrate is, I feel I need at least about 10 updates/second to comfortably use the VC. Some payware achieves this, so I can use the VC 100% of the time - the Scout does not so I have to use the 2D panel except when I'm just sightseeing and not looking at any of the instruments. For me, the VC is the biggest weakness of the Scout. -
