I'm probably about to get myself into trouble, but why would someone go to all the effort of creating an original aircraft, repaint, panel, or scenery and not include any pics of their handy work under the Zip Drive list of files? There are extremely talented folks in the FS community but some not so much. Personally, I am very hestitant to download anything if I can't get a glimpse of what I'm going to get. Any thoughts?

I agree with you. If I am looking at prospective aircraft/panels etc etc and there are no screenshots I won't download.

Poppo44, when the present library was put in place and suggestions were called for, I specifically asked that uploads only be accepted if there were screenshots of PANELS. I made my views known at that time and still no change!

 

As you say there are some good talent out there but, unfortunately, there are a lot of waste of spacers (including those for that create products for sale). In time you get to know those who are good, although there must be many that we are missing because there are no screeshots included. It is right and proper to boycott (not download) those where you cannot see their respective handywork beforehand.

 

We would not want to see quantity before quality on Avsim, but they like to promote themselves as the biggest - but that does not always mean the best.

Interesting topic! It is also worth noting that after the infamous AVSim hack attack, a number of library uploads have lost their screenshots! It is worthwhile in my opinion to check into the ZipDive! You might with time find who makes good stuff, who makes excellent things and who makes way more simple stuff... ad it all boils down to taste at times! Plus I have seen initially mediocre authors who only turned out to be inexperienced learn their way to be amazing! Let AVSim accept even this beginner-quality add-ons, there might be big names in the making there! My only complaint is about people who upload re-paints as "original aircraft" in a puerile attempt to increase downloads!
