vox atc newbie questions

Featured Replies

Hi all I installed vox atc a few days ago , it took me a while to get it all set up how I wanted it , ie atc & Mic through my headset & additional voxpop voices working & now I'm loving it.

I downloaded the latest version from the vox atc web site but it appears there is a newer version ? , also I'm not sure whether I have the UK expansion and I really want that , how can you tell ? , also I don't have any sid or star data to use & lastly I keep getting told to change squawk setting , I press " i " first then spacebar & read back the atc response but it doesn't seem to change it , I'm flying the sludge hornet f18.

Hi sleightflight,

Did you install the NAVdata for level-d?

You need to have that installed with the latest air cycle to get the sid/star to work.

That should solve you problem.

Haven't installed the level d navdata , I haven't got any level d software to copy it from unfortunately , I followed some links to try & get some but it was all payware where you had to pay more than what you appeared to need.

You don't need the level D software, just the folder setup-which Navigraph will I believe create when you when you install the Level D navdata. You don't need to copy it, Vox will access from there. Navigraph data comes on credits at 20 points per update ( updated 4 weekly) - which covers all the aircraft using navadata that you may have. You don't have to update all the time - just when you want. Credits can also be used to buy airport charts and en-route maps. Only prob is you have to buy 200 credits first time . . . If you're serious about flying SIDS/STARS, then you'll need it

Ok , thanks . I am just starting out on ifr flying , I have always done vfr flying before & as I drive all over the UK I find it very easy to navigate that way . I am now starting to use new navigation aids , for me at least & using vox atc was at first overwhelming , but now I know how to put the ifr flight plan into my plane of choice & actually get it to follow that plan gives me more time to focus on the other parts of flying like actually listening to atc commands & replying , rather than being in robot mode & just reading what the atc box is telling me to reply .

I have now sorted the squawk isue , so my next mission is to start to learn how to use the vor beacons & ils landing system. Still don't know if the UK expansion pack is in this download package though .

I will once I have learned how to use sid & stars go & put credits in & download the data needed , thanks for the info.

UK is only available via the dvd set from RC Simulations at £80 ish navigraph site is easy pay, go to data page, download the navadat for aircraft you want and execute the download. good luck!

Ok thanks for the reply , that's unfortunate though cos I have paid for the download version , I will have to live with it now I guess , un less the developer releases an upgrade download version.

On the Navigraph website there is a free version of LevelD Navdata. Its quite old now but ok for testing purposes to see if all is well before you purchase.

Kind Regards

Simon.

ok thanks for that I will see if I can find it , Im not to concerned at real accuracy at the moment ,so it will be nice to try it out for free , then if I really get into procedural flight I can go & get the most up to date data.

Ok , I have downloaded the free level d trial data from navigraph , it is just a xml file , no installer , so I created a file called nav data & put the xml file in it , now when I try to get vox atc to use it, it gives me an error saying no nav data or something to that effect , any clues anyone , I Google searched for an answer before I posted here, but I couldn't find an answer.
