Density Altitute and flutter in gliders...

Featured Replies

Dear Aerofly FS users,

I believe I read somewhere that AeroFly FS was not modelling density altitude. Apparently there is no way to make temperature adjustments, but I believe that at least the variation of density with altitude should be modelled.

. Does this flutter occur at lower IAS when flying higher?

Thx in advance for any answers / tests your are so kind to perform :-)

Try joining the forum again as well. I'm sure some developer could answer your questions quickly.

Devon,

yes, I am trying for the 2nd time. Again I received an email stating that my registration was awaiting authorization from a moderator.

I seriously hope the forum is not restricted to their product users... :-/

I had the same trouble getting in and I own it. Finally sent a e-mail to support and it was corrected right away. You do not have to own the product to be in the forum. Still don't know what the problem was. Keep trying.

I got on right away, so I know it's possible. Keep trying! :-)

Problem solved :-) First post at Aerofly's site ;-) Looking fwd for their answer...

Aerofly may soon become my 2nd flight sim together with ELITE v8 :-)

I have came accross a long journey since the advent and latter dismiss of MS FLIGHT. FSX Gold, then X-Plane... Both were a disappointment in the end :-( for distinct reasons... Aerofly pretty much reminds me of when I bought FLIGHT UNLIMITED in 1995 - Whow!

My last experience with it at a friends PC was very positive !!!

Let us know what you think of Aerofly. Unfortunately I don't have much interest in a simulator that features just a small area of the world, unless there's something way ahead of the competition, and that would be realism! I read somewhere the problem with Aerofly it that the planes feel like a bigger version of their R/C models, not like the real thing. That would be because Aerofly is known to making excellent R/C Simulators, is that true?

Well Alexis, I can only talk for the gliders from RL experience, and the weather model. Both are ahead of any thing I know up to now. But yes, secenery is limited, aircraft systems too. Anyway, for great FDs and weather effects, specially when it comes to mountain soaring, and also thermalling, AeroFly is the best I know so far.

Some RL pilots also find the prop models very good.

Have to disagree. Although I like Areofly FS, the soaring experience is not relistic at all. And it is certainly not the best simulated soaring experience! From a gliding perspective Aerofly is fun but if you are looking for a relistic experience you should be looking at Condor: The Competition Soaring Simulator. If you are a gliding student you should be staying away from simulators altogether until your instructor tells you that its OK to use a simulator for practice. If your instructor tells you to use anything other than Condor, get a different instructor!!!! If you do use a simulator for pratice you should be following real world procedures and it should only be in Condor. By comparison the graphics are weak but the experience and the behaviour of the gliders and weather is realistic.

Alternatively, Gliding in FSX is also good with the addon Cumulus X. As usual with FSX setup is a pain. But if you are a gliding student or plan to take up gliding stay away from gliding in Aerofly FS and when you are ready, pratice in Condor.

If you are just having fun, sure Aerofly FS is great fun and so is FSX. Even if you have no intention to flying real gliders Condor is also fun and challenging

The bottom line is (and this applies to any real aviation) DONT DEVELOP BAD HABITS IN A SIMULATOR OR A GAME THAT WILL KILL YOU IN THE REAL WORLD!!!!!

@Avidean:

I agree with your remarks. My initial evaluation of the flight characteristics was unfirtunately far from what further experience showed to be the truth... The problems with some even basic aspects of the fdm are also present in the prop models, and together make AeroFly more of a fun to play game than other thing.

Together with X-Plane, Aerofly was my second worst buy of 2012 :-(

Now regerding Condor, I actually prefer SilentWings. And yes, CumulusX! is a great add-on, useable also in P3D!

You have peaked my interest. I have heard of Silent Wings but never tried it.

I took a look at a couple of YouTube vids and it looks good. fluid motion, convinving CU.

The terrain didn't look great but those of us interested in specialty backwater sims have to live with that for now. Although I do like my eyecandy :P I understand that there is a 2 week demo so I will try it out and post my opinion. That's assuming I am not flying my Jantar anytime soon, Soaring season is upon us hear in southern Ontario!

Yep, and while you have a Jantar in Condor, you don't have one in SW....

SW uses a completely different technique to determine thermal and ridge / mountain lift, including wave in a more realistic representation than the single "wave crest" of Condor.

Yet, I prefer Condor's moving clouds, weather variability, the many aspects of the weather interface as a whole, and the real chance to fly online, which is something almost dead in SW.

The only reason why I like SW more is because of the better feel of most flight models, particularly those of the Antares.
