FSX screen doesnt redraw on returning to FSX

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if this is a graphics card problem, a OS problem or what, so I'm starting here - maybe someone can point me at the right answer .....

When I leave FSX to go to another program (e.g. setting up FSInn or using Topcat for fuel and loading etc) when I return to FSX, the screen doesnt always re-draw properly. Sometimes it does, sometimes not. Sometimes it'll just stay black with the sounds indicating the program is running, just not drawing the screen. Other times I'll have only part of the screen redrawn - like for example I'll have no panels, or only ground and sky nothing else.

In my old system I would have just said it was a problem of not enough available memory and started my flight all over again. But this new system of mine is a much higher-end system, and I'm hoping my problem is just a setting somewhere.

Can anyone point me at where I need to go looking?

I've looked in all the obvious places - the NVIDIA control panel for a way to increase the amount of available graphics memory, cleared anything unnecessary off the C drive etc.

My system is as follows:

Lenovo model 0569CTO 16GB Ram

Intel Xeon 4-core processor 2.4GHz

Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro 4000 10GB graphics memory

O/S: Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit

FSX- Gold Edition

PMDG B737 NGX

ORBX - everything those guys do!

Ok I've done some more research, and I've found out this problem is not a O/S problem nor a hardware problem. It turns out that all the modifications PMDG made to the way FSX runs, in order to create the marvel of the B737 NGX means it doesnt like to be reloaded, or loaded over itself.

So instead of using Alt-Tab to move away from FSX, you have to change FSX to windows mode by using ALT-ENTER, then FSX continues running happily in the smaller window. Then you can Alt-Tab between other applications all you want. Then to get back to FSX, you make the FSX windows the current one, and make it full screen again using ALT-ENTER.

Sorry to have troubled you folks here on this forum.

That's really interesting because I have just built a new computer bought and installed B737 NGX for the first time and found the exact same problem. I thought it might be something I had done wrong with the build or like you a graphics card problem. Perhaps PMDG could address issue in a future update.

I have this problem but I don't have any PMDG aircraft installed in FSX. I decreased the frequency of this problem by disabling Windows Aero and changing some other Windows display settings.

This happens to me if I go to one of the tabs at the top of the screen to change the time or load a flight plan. If pmdg doesn't like doing this how else can it be done.

I have just had it happen after doing a save. Blank screen, I can restart fsx and it will work again but this is getting me down now which is a shame because it's a wonderful product

I have Windows 7 set to "Windows Classic" in Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Personalization. That and turning off Aero really helped with this problem. Again, I don't have any PMDG aircraft installed in FSX (I do have 737/600-900 and the 747 installed in FS9 on the same computer).

You might try the UIAutomationCore.dll fix, as Colin is getting the exact symptom in response to Menu clicks.

Go here, download it to the FSX root folder, then rename it to the name shown in the first line.

I've seen this issue a few times...I've found that if I press CTRL-ALT-DELETE and select the task manager, as soon as the task manager loads FSX will return to the screen.
