July 10, 200421 yr I installed these things thinking I could extend say the cockpit controls to my laptop, but I have no clue how to do this. WideClient says I'm connected... okay, now what? Are these things irrelevant to what I want to do?
July 10, 200421 yr WideFS is not a utility for video situations. It allows 3rd party software to run on your laptop and still connect to FS running on your main computer. One software out there for multiple monitor setups is called WideView. Sorry, I don't know much more then that.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
July 10, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi,If you mean extend actual panels and such to the laptop, then Jim said it.. you can't do that with WideFS alone... WideView is for multiple machines running FS connected to display the external views across multiple monitors (doesn't work for the cockpits, only external view). The best bet is to go with a multiple-monitor setup from your main FS PC (use a dual head or separate PCI video card), so you can drag your cockpit panels and such to the second monitor.Your laptop over WideFS CAN be used still.. for things like external FSUIPC-based add-ons, to offload these things from the main FS pc. You can also go the Project Magenta route, and have the laptop display a jet or GA panel (replaces the FS aircraft panels), while your main FS monitor is showing only the external view.Hope that helps! July 10, 200421 yr I want to go the Magenta route and put the IFR Panel on my lap top..but use the Desktop for Fsim. and scenary. But I am afraid of the technology especially when Magenta says.. get these Utility from someone else and read their documentation.I mean..if your product needs their technology ...atleast you need to give detailed information of how to set the whole thing up using their techinolgy (FSUPIPC, WideView or whatever, MS IPX).I downloaded their demo and it runs very well even if its not connected to a desktop... its so smooth..I want it badly and am willing to spend money. but I don't know how to connect it to the Destop using those other products (FSUPIC and wideview). Do I need to register those utilities for running the demo? Don't know. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 10, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi,All of this IS explained in detail in PM documentation. You need WideFS registered to make it work with actual connection to the FS machine.WideView is something else, not needed in this setup. It is for multiple FS machines for additional external views. Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
July 11, 200421 yr Ooops. Sorry..I meant WideFS ..not Wideview.OK.. so the Demo does not connect to the Fsim.. right? Or would it connect if I have a registered version of WideFS? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 11, 200421 yr The demo will connect if you have WideFS installed and registered (i.e. paid for). I just did it yesterday with the Project Magenta GA-IFR and regional jet panel demos. I also had luck with a couple freeware analogues to Project Magenta's big jet stuff...BTW all you need on the client PC (the one you run the PM stuff on) is Pete's "Wideclient" (which needs to be told the IP address of the "master" machine running FS and WideServer, via its .ini file) and the PM application, such as GA-IFR. Then, on your master machine, run FSUIPC and WideFS (i.e. install the FSUIPC.DLL Wideserver.DLL to your Modules folder under FS - and both must be paid for/registered). This was a little confusing for me at first.Dave Blevinshttp://www.flightfactory-simulations.com/h...ster_banner.jpg System: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 mobo *** i7 2700K @ 5gHz w/ Corsair H80 cooler NVidia GTX 570 OC *** 8 GB 1600 Corsair Vengeance DRAM *** CoolerMaster HAF X case System overclocked and tuned for FSX by fs-gs.com Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog stick/throttle & CH Products Pro Pedals Various GoFlight panels *** PFC avionics stack
July 11, 200421 yr That explanation helps Dave. Thanks. But tell me.. My laptop (Where I intend to run the PM) has win XP and the desktop has Win200 (The one running the FSim).would this create any issues that you are aware of? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 11, 200421 yr I'm running Win2K on my old laptop and XP Pro on my desktop. Everything works fine - your situation is the other way around but I'd bet you'll have no problems.BTW the laptop mentioned is a 750mHz Dell with some variant of the Rage Pro video chipset, which as far as I know does not have native OpenGL support. I also tried this on my new Dell 2gHz laptop with an NVidia chip - as you might expect, there is no comparison in terms of the video quality and gauge smoothness; as a matter of fact my new laptop seems to run FS2004 and the PM gauges better than my desktop PC, which is a P4 2.4C with an NVidia 5700 Ultra card. Go figure.I was hoping to use the older laptop for my "cockpit" setup, but unfortunately the refresh rate and pixelation are unacceptable... I'm going to see if I can get hold of a docking station for it, that has a PCI slot, put an Nvidia card in there, and see how that works.dBhttp://www.flightfactory-simulations.com/h...ster_banner.jpg System: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 mobo *** i7 2700K @ 5gHz w/ Corsair H80 cooler NVidia GTX 570 OC *** 8 GB 1600 Corsair Vengeance DRAM *** CoolerMaster HAF X case System overclocked and tuned for FSX by fs-gs.com Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog stick/throttle & CH Products Pro Pedals Various GoFlight panels *** PFC avionics stack
July 11, 200421 yr Dave... I have a wireless setup using Linksys. Do I have to mess around with networking? I have no clue how to go about setting IPX or TCP/IP or whatever.. Thats what scares me.But If it's simply figuring out the IP Address of the host and putting it in some ini files.. I can manage that.BTW.. How do you like the setup? is it as smooth as the demo? you know.. the Direction gyro was awesome.. on the demo (without connecting to anything). If the IFR panel works out..I'll proally get the electronic dashboard as well. I am working on my IFR for real... hence my interest in this :) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 12, 200421 yr Author As long as your wireless setup gives the host the same IP address, then you are set. Ignore the IPX stuff, unless for some reason you are running that stack, which most people do not these days.scott s..
