Build My new PC, still lagging on fsx!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have recently build my new own pc and I have chosen some great hardware.

My specs are:

i7 3770k oc at 4.6

16GB ram kingstone hyper x

msi z77 gd65 mobo

1tb seagate barracuda hdd

antec 920 cpu cooler

amd radeon 6950 2GB factory oc

I don't know why I still can't play fsx the way I want.

I want to be able to play fsx with whole lots of addons and I want it to be as smooth as possible.( high frames)

I also want to play on high setting.

I think that the following hardware that I have is more that enough for what I want but I dunno why I still can't get the desired results from it.

So if any of you guys can help me and give me some tips or tweaks that would solve my problem, I would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!! :)

I've recently upgraded from a stable frame happy FS9 and spending alot of money upgrading to what i feel is a good spec for FSX, however I am still left a little disapointed. As soon as any real scenery and AI is generated, the stuttering begins and frames drop.

Your system looks slightly better than mine, I am running a stock 3570k 3.4 and I am looking to overclock this in the next few weeks to over 4ghz to see if this helps FPS. Have you followed the recommendations in Word Not Allowed's guide as these really are a must? If not then i would suggest you do so. Also what settings are you using within FSX? Any addon scenery?

This is easily one of the biggest bottlenecks of your entire system. The 6950 is a decent card but, in FSX, AMD cards perform much slower than Nvidia.

Your framerate would increase drastically (in clouds) if you upgraded to one of the new Kepler cards from Nvidia. Something like a GTX660Ti or 670...

#1simmer, I fly with deltavirtual, and on our message board, I posted some setups before purchasing my new computer, and one of the things that numerous people told me was to buy an nvidia video card, which I ended up NOT doing. Looking back, I probably should have coughed up the money and went ahead and bought one.

I also was hoping to do a lot of add-ons. Right off the bat, I had a lot of issues with my computer, and actually I still do from time to time. And in addition to that, FSX is one of the most unstable/quirky programs I've ever seen. Countless times I've had to change this and that, add a .dll file into one of the fsx folders on the hard drive, etc. I had ultimate terrain x (I believe that's the name) on the computer, but ended up taking it off when trying different things to see if I could make the program (fsx) more stable. I haven't rolled the dice and reinstalled it because I'm afraid of it messing something else up. I went ahead and put my traffic back on, and so far it seems to be working alright with that on. I also have Level-D 767, and that seems to be working flawlessly (KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!!).

But again, like you, I was wanting to do add-ons galore. There are some others I'd like to purchase, but so far I have held off because I don't want to waste $. I also purchased 16gb of RAM like you did. Not sure if you've ever heard, but supposedly FSX maxes out at 4gb of RAM, and will not utilize anymore than that regardless of how much you have.

Can you be a little more specific?

With that system you should be able to run NGX in Orbx land with 18-25 fps (depending on weather/clouds etc) and very high scenery settings.

The settings that will knock down fps are bloom, 2x water, lots of AI vehicles and even AI traffic depending on third party software you run. Clouds will also drop fps drastically depending on your video card (Ben is correct... even powerful recent AMD cards don't play well with FSX).

I suggest looking over the "Word Not Allowed" guide.. updated version here:

18-25fps in ORBX land with NGX is a little optimistic on the Radeon card, BUT, if you lower the IQ settings and look over my guide as Ryan suggested, you might find some balance to able to run satisfyingly. But as everyone else have suggested, Nvidia would have been a much better solution. My Guide also contains the Hardware section which gives you the idea about the right purchase for FSX.

This is an one stop shop for FSX tweaking and buying hardware.
