  1. Nice build, you have the same CPU as me and the motherboard is the one I wish to purchase as right now I am unable to OC and my memory is running at a slower speed than it should (completely messed up when buying a mobo). I am hoping to reach 4.4 on my IB without de lidding, my FSX experiecne right now is good but i really want another 20% out of performance
  2. I've recently upgraded from a stable frame happy FS9 and spending alot of money upgrading to what i feel is a good spec for FSX, however I am still left a little disapointed. As soon as any real scenery and AI is generated, the stuttering begins and frames drop. Your system looks slightly better than mine, I am running a stock 3570k 3.4 and I am looking to overclock this in the next few weeks to over 4ghz to see if this helps FPS. Have you followed the recommendations in Word Not Allowed's guide as these really are a must? If not then i would suggest you do so. Also what settings are you using within FSX? Any addon scenery?
  3. Sorry forgot to update, changed to a 660ti yesterday and its cured it all, crappy onboard intel graphics!
  4. I am running the same CPU and graphics card here, but have not overclocked yet. It runs FSX fine aslong as I don't start with any AI traffic or HD scenery, my next step is to overclock to 4.2 and see if there is much change in performance. At present I can not even think of turning Ultimate Traffic 2 on, wondering if WOAI would be better
  5. Actually I've just found it, I did not even know this existed thanks I will have a read through as I really like the bloom effect but to change 25fps to 15 is not practical right now, so hope the forum can offer some help! thanks again
  6. ok noticed thanks, any reason why ticking DX10 is like halfing my frames? Im a bit wary of OCing my CPU, but i think 4ghz should be ok with a decent cooler, I know some people go to 4.5 without any problems however
  7. Thanks for all the help Ben, I've also turned on AA within FSX and i'm now getting some really sweet visuals in GEX with addon scenery. I am struggling still to get large airports to run smooth free, so I will overclock to 4GHz next month I think. I notice the Use Bloom Effect literally kills FPS, is there any real reason for this? I love the effect it gives but the performance drop off is huge, is there an alternative?
  8. I've followed that guide, its very good... is there anywhere I can view other peoples FSX.CFG files to compare?
  9. Yeah Ben just applied it and its corrected the slideshow effect! I've also stopped Preview DX10 as i did not really notice any difference and it was eating my frames... I am now getting locked 30 around flytampa KBOS. what a difference I've also got [bUFFERPOOLS] Poolsize=0 is this needed now more than ever with a new card?
  10. Ok first impressions its a HUGE increase in FPS over the integrated, however one thing is still occuring. When i pan around the aircraft from the outside when airborne I get a kind of slideshow effect on the ground, its not that my FPS are not high, its just not 'smooth' its hard to explain, its like the ground isn't reflecting the higher FPS i am getting (locked at 30 via internal limiter). I'm going to have a look in Word Not Allowed's guide to see if I am missing anything. Also should I be checking DX10 Preview in FSX?
  11. I have just purchased and fitted my 660ti about to fire up FSX kinda excited!
  12. That is from PMDG NGX and the FMC is already pretty small... I'm thinking its a lack of seperate GPU causing this as its all 2D panels, I've just never seen anything like this before in FS2004 and was under the impression the 2D panels were very similar if not the same
  13. I'm in need of an FPS boost badly but then again I am running integrated graphics so I am expecting at least a 20% increase by running a dedicated GPU. I will be overclocking the CPU if possible soon, but nothing extreme. I think 4 to 4.2GHz at very most as I do not want any stability problems. struggling to get 20fps and I haven't even added any scenery or traffic yet to my NGX :(
  14. Thanks Ben, that's the green light i was looking for. May ask, what is SGSS? Also does it handle the 'light bloom' option in FSX with preview direct X 10, any of these 2 options seem to kill my current setup. I am hoping i get some form of FPS increase from a new GPU but I am not sure what sort of % increase I am going to get just yet
  15. Im running an i5 3570k 3.4 at present with on board GPU, its obviously very poor so I am changing the graphics card in the next phase of my build. I was thinking of the 560ti however the 660ti seems a beter buy all around. I do not want to spend over £250 / $400 on a card as this is really outside of my budget so I think a 660ti is probably the best choice. Also I can not see huge differences in performance between the 660ti and 670/680 cards for FSX as the software is CPU reliant for the most part. Does anyone have a 660ti running FSX and can report on performance? Obviously its alot of money and I don't want to be dissapointed. I have priced the card at £233 via my local store which is the cheapest around.
  16. I have been a longtime user of FS9 and LDS767 & PMDG747 and never really got to grips with the NGX or was a big fan of virtual cockpits. I've recently upgraded to FSX and purchased the NGX and i've not stopped using it since, its just better in every way than the other 2 products, I appreciate its newer, but its a great product
  17. Even without overclocking I think you should be ok, might struggle at large complex airports though without lowering some settings
  18. I was wondering if anyone can provide any input. I have recently upgraded to FSX and part way through building a new rig. I am still to purchase a decent GPU but have loaded FSX and a couple of addons in preperation. I have however one small problem, most 2D pop out panels on any aircraft are in low resolution I have tried playing with display settings, and as you can see from the lower part of the image the VC views are fine, I am just wondering if I am missing something, or Intel onboard 4000 graphics are the culprit? Never had such problems with FS9 and I am due to purchase a 560/660 nvidia card next week, but wondering if this is related to something else?
  19. JACKPOT! Thankyou sir, how very odd. Registry problem with user account? Im about to install Acceleration now so I will leave the account active incase it comes up again. Finally may I ask? Are there any other services packs I should be downloading to increase performance? or is the acceleration pack CD the last update for FSX? Thanks a million again, I can't say i would have ever thought of that
  20. There is no telephone number sadly, and that Microsoft article doesnt really give me anything useful to try. I don't know if this is a problem with my product key or my computer? Reluctantly, I am going to try uninstalling and reinstalling
  21. Good afternoon, I've recently taken the plunge and upgraded to FSX from 9, I decided to format my machine and start from fresh as I wanted the best performance. However I am now trying to activate my copy of FSX and I am getting a rather annoying licence authorization was unsuccessful msg. I have determined the key I am entering is correct as I do not get that error if I change 1 charachter of the key, and my internet connection is obviously working however I have tried now 10 times and still get the same msg. I have also tried a repair install of FSX. Google leads me to a rather vauge Microsoft website where I can download and install a fix however this has made no change. Is this likely to be a problem at Microsoft's end? I have been trying for the last hour without success, however when I last installed the product alongside FS9 on my old HD it activated fine. I presume I am not limited to the number of times I can activate the product since I purchased it online from Amazon? Also, I can leave it in trial mode, but presume there are some drawbacks to this? Oh and I have already tried to 'activate by telephone now' however this just does nothing on my screen, and I understand Microsoft do not longer support this product. Anyone have any idea's? Starting to go a bit crazy. Tried to search on these forums but if im honest find them a bit cluttered and couldnt locate easily anything of relevance
  22. From what I have discovered in my thread this morning, you are going to have to change everything!
  23. This is what i was afraid of, i am being told to replace everything.... the CPU ive only just purchased and am i seriously going to need 2133MHz memory??? The 660ti is an option. just coming under budget... I can't believe i will still have performance issues on FSX running an i5 at 4GHz ??? I might just stick with fs2004 at this rate!
  24. Hi, I'm a long time user of FS2004, however I feel now is the time to move on to FSX. Given the vast difference in eye candy and hardware avail at not wallet emptying prices... Here is what I have so far, I would very much appreciate some comments, or feedback Asus H61 MX USB 3 (will come to this later) 8GB Corsair 1600MHz RAM (only running 1333mhz for some reason, even though asus say board supports higher freq) Intel i5 3570k 3.4GHz stock cooler and stock clockspeed Intel HD4000 graphics currently in-use 500MB 7200rpm hard drive 24'' HP 1920X1080 display. Great system for FS2004 really works well, only seem to get drop off in FPS when running high density addons and virtual cockpit is in use. I need to move upto FSX however. I plan upgrading my PSU to around 700w as currently on anchient 450w non SATA, also some great deals on SSD drives right now, i was thinking of going for 120GB to keep windows and FSX on and everything else on the SATA drive. Do you think this would be large enough, or am I best going for 240gb? Graphics most likely will be a 560ti, don't want to break £200 ($300) and I understand this card is good enough? Does anyone here have this GPU and can comment? Finally, much to my horror, I've found out my mobo has severely limited if none overclocking capabilities. My question is... is this a problem or will my CPU be ok as it stands? If not I will change boards and purchase an aftermarket cooler to get up to the iconic 4.0GHz mark The knowledge on this site really is great, I've tried elsewhere but I get so many varying opinions. I've been told FSX is a waste of time unless can break 4.0GHz and have a $400 GPU. For the record ive already tried running FSX on my current setup, and sadly... its poor.
  25. Thanks guys, as suspected I thought the answer was not, but that link provided looks very promising. I'm also after a 757 but I suspect this is more straightforward as captain sim seems to be a good choice
