October 22, 201213 yr I thought I was experiencing the "flashing cloud"/disappearing and reappearing syndrome.. so I applied a flashing cloud fix from this thread: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/351572-flashing-clouds/ It basically mentioned changing a property in a file in the shaders folder in the fsx installation path.. then renaming the shaders folder in the user profile to rebuld it.. Is there any drawback to doing this? Just curious what others have found. October 22, 201213 yr For those not registered on the REX forums can you summarize what is said in that thread you linked to please? Eric
October 22, 201213 yr Fixing this cloud flashing requires some simple tweaking of your FSX. You must enable hidden files and folders to be visible for this procedure to occur. If you have: i) XP: Click on My Computer, located in your Start Menu. On the menu bar, click Tools and go to Folder Options. Go to the Viewtab and under the Hidden files and folders section select Show hidden files and folders. ii) Vista/Windows 7: Click on Control Panel, located in your Start Menu. Navigate to Appearance and Personalization. Click on Folder Options. Go to the View tab and under the Hidden files and folders section select Show hidden files and folders. STEP 1 Go to Flight Simulator X\ShadersHLSL\Misc You will find a file called SwarmCloud.fx. Remember to backup or rename this file. Open this in notepad and find the following line: bool NewMaterialUsage = true; Change True to False, remembering to keep the semi colon. STEP 2 If you have: i) XP: Go to C:\Documents and Settings\NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.CFG ii) Vista/Windows 7: Go to C:Users/NAME/AppData/Local/Microsoft/FSX Here you shall see two folders, Shaders and Shaders10. Inside both of these folders you shall see a Misc folder. Delete or move the folder, FSX will make a new one upon application run. The Shaders folder is for DX9, and the Shaders10 folder is for DX10 (Preview). If only deleting the Misc folder does not work, you can delete the the whole Shaders and/or Shaders10 folders and try again.
