October 27, 201213 yr I'm looking for a quick and simple method of identifying which keys (and key combinations) are assigned to FSX functions and which are free (unassigned). Is there a utility program available that can read the appropriate files (fsx.cfg and standard.xml I believe), and then present a table and/or list of this controls assignment information in an organized and easy to read format? October 28, 201213 yr Ken found that nobody answer...... ;-) I used an excel file to do that.. and manual entries ... long and inefficient but it works.. PierreP3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...C-GDXL based at CYQB for real flying when its warming up...
October 28, 201213 yr Do you have a macro or something to help? I would bet that a macro could read the files and put the data out in a logical format. Maybe an Access database? So it would seem there is some potential for fame for a programmer with too much time on his hands to put such a utility out. An Access database would not be easily distributable but if it were written in a script language or even C/C++ it could work. Hmm. Thinking...
October 29, 201213 yr Author You are very perceptive Pierre. It's amazing that (apparently) nothing like this has been offered. If I had the time and expertise I'd certainly take a crack at it. Perhaps someone with the time and expertise will notice this thread and "take the bull by the horns". My apologies to those who were misled by the sarcasm in my post #2 above. Please, someone with the time and expertise, get three of your best programmers on this immediately ~ Best to all, Ken Ken Boardman
November 1, 201213 yr OK folks, here's a start. I have thrown together a little script that will read the xml control file and export to a csv (comma seperated file). You can open it with Excel. In this version only "regular" keys and F-keys are supported. Listed are also modifiers Shift and Ctrl. Use at own risk! http://try-this-at-home.de.vu/downloads/ReadFSXControls.zip Switchboard - Track Your Simulator Add-ons - Throttle Quadrant
November 2, 201213 yr I have updated the link and it now shows Numpad Keys and some special keys, too. Switchboard - Track Your Simulator Add-ons - Throttle Quadrant
