Nvidia driver problem with DX10

Hi Paul,

This thread got me to looking into my FSX root folder also. I also do not have the UIAutomatationCore.dll file (now I do because I placed your version in there today) but I do have something called,"UIAutomationCore.rar". What is that - and do you think it is still a good idea to place the UIAutomationCore.dll file in the FSX core folder when this other file exists there? BTW, I also am running Windows7 (64bit).

Thanks!

Hi John,

Isn't that a WinRar file, like Winzip, waiting to be extracted?

I've got the same Windows, and like you have placed Paul's version of UIAutomatationCore.dll in my FSX root. No problems with it since.

Hiya, John!! Great to hear from you again!

BTW, I also am running Windows7 (64bit).
Aaah - but are you running DX10??

The UIAutomationCore.dll that should/can/might be found in the root folder of your FSX is there generally as a result of an incompatibility between FSX and the UIAutomationCore.dll provided with Windows 7. It gets placed there by the user, as a "work-around" because FSX has a propensity to "hang" - most often when flying complex aircraft, with "lots going on", menu accesses, etc., and after perhaps twenty or more minutes of flying. The screen just locks but all aircraft sounds continue - sometimes it's a black screen. It does this when it talks to the stock Windows 7 UIAutomationCore.dll, (there are two - one located in the Windows\System32 folder, and the other, in the SysWoW64 folder). The newer dll is missing a library function that FSX needs, or has newer, and different syntax perhaps, but in any event - the application - FSX - simply stops working.

The answer is to use the older Vista version - 6.0.5840.1638, works very well, and without failure. Place it in the FSX root, as this is where FSX will look first when it's needed.

The ".rar" extension is akin to the ".zip" extension - just another method of compressing a file, or a set of files - for transit somewhere, or simply to save storage space. If you have another UIAtomationCore.dll there in the rar file, just remove it - it's taking up space!

All the Best!

As always, Paul - you're the "go-to guy" for all of us who need enlightenment! It's awfully good to hear from you too, Buddy!

I'm not running DX10. Don't know that you have enough time to get me up and running with that beauty. I'd probably have to try to convince your better half to let you come to SC for awhile just to make sure I did it right!

BTW, I was thinking about you the other day as I took a little jaunt in my spiffy little chipmunk.

Thanks for the info my friend! I'll keep that dll file in the FSX root folder just for insurance!

Y'all take care now and please give Dorothy a hug for me!

Hi John! Thanks - that hug will get me another PNW airport!

Listen, John - if you want to, and need some help in becoming a "DX10'er" - even to try it out - Teamspeak and Teamviewer 7 and a couple of hours or three is all you need. Just pm me and we'll set up a session for sometime in the next week. (Retirement is great!). Les (Maverick) has just purchased Orbx's PNW and two or three airports, and so we spent yesterday afternoon/evening installing and "testing them out" at Zoolander's Digital Theme Park.

All the Best,

pj

Thanks, Buddy.

I very well may take you up on that offer. It would have to be next week for sure because I'm up to my eyeballs in sympathy work down here. I'm becoming more and more envious of your situation - a retirement very well earned! I've thought about trying DX10 but my situation is somewhat different in that I run Nvidia's Surround as you know and I'm afraid that might complicate things. For instance, I tried upgrading to the new 300 series of Nvidia drivers and quickly found they were not compatible with my present set-up (surround on three monitors and 'multi-monitor' enabled to bring the fourth on-line).

I would love to see if DX10 would make a positive difference on my machine. Let me get through my present predicament and I'll PM you.

Meantime, If you can distract Dorothy enough, take a look at Orbx's 2W3 (Swanson) in Eatonville, WA. It's a lovely little strip in a great location. I've even 'appropriated' one of the cottages along the RW for Charley and me when our time comes!

Y'all take care now - and if that hug works for you, here's another for Dorothy!

Hey friends, i fixed the problem i had with DX10-preview. It was a matter in the Nvidia system control (Nvidia Systemsteuerung), which you can reach with a right-click on your Windows desktop. Opening the control center, there is the first point left "3D-settings" and - in blue - "manage 3D settings" (3D-Einstellungen verwalten). On the right side there are two cards: "global settings" and "program settings". In "global settings" there is an option "energy management mode" (Energieverwaltungsmodus). Standard setting here is "adaptiv", but the choise is "prefer maximal power" (maximale Leistung bevorzugen). Thats it! B)

After doing these few clicks, my DX10 works perfect with FSX without any failures!

Allways three greens,
Markus
