FS9 compatibility

Featured Replies

Hello Opus,

I would be very interested in a new weather engine for FS9 and OPUS FSX looks very interesting!

Might FS9 compatibility be in the pipeline...or possible please?

Hi Ed

We have looked into it but there is no method available to us to automatically load the weather, it has to be done manually by the user at the moment. Someone did load in one of our saved Dynamic Weather themes we sent them and the METAR file import may also work. It is something we may look into when we have completed our current planned developments but it will require a fair bit of development.

Thankyou for replying to me on both forums Cheryl. (I did this because I think other FS9'ers will be interested)

From what I am reading and seeing in the forums about your product for FSX ...if your weather engine can be brought to FS9 I think you find a lot of customers including myself.

Stephan and Cheryl,

I'm sure you already know this but Ed is an icon in the FS9 world. His videos are second to none. If Opus has caught his attention, that really says something. We all realize that you both are very busy with the FSX version of Opus but when time allows it would be great if you could work out a version for FS9. There's still a pretty significant number of simmers using FS9. Some exclusively and others, like myself, who use both.

I would love to. I can prepare a LWE for FS9 if enough people want but I stress there is absolutely no way to automatically load the weather into the sim. The best I could do is generate a theme file and automatically copy it into the FS9 folder ready for manual loading via the FS9 menu.

Ask around the FS9 community, if this is acceptable i will prepare something for you.

After all I wouldn't want you to be missing out on the storm chasing. I will post an OpusWeather.zip file on our website for people to download and try. This file will cover 318 x 318 miles of weather for you to explore centred on JFK at this moment, but you could load it in anywhere.

Try unzipping the contents of this into your <FS9>\Weather\themes folder and loading it as a static theme within FS9 please ...

http://www.opussoftw...OpusWeather.zip

This file contains two weather themes (OpusWeather1 and OpusWeather2) each covers a 512km x 512km (318 x 318 mile) area centred on your location for you to explore. Theme 1 weather was generated this morning at KJFK, and theme 2 is a little more interesting stormy weather with more cloud layers and CBs, it was generated about 08:15 Zulu today at EHAM, but you can load them in at any location. Please report back after trying them I have no idea what the wider area weather themes are like but they should both be pretty stormy. If this works I will try one maxed out giving 992km x 992 km (616 x 616 miles).

Sorry I didn't copy the METAR for JFK. But please compare the ATIS after loading theme 2 with the above.

Stephen
