October 31, 201213 yr Not quite a CTD as FSX will no longer even start! The opening screen appears, then nothing until "A fatal error occurred" Seems there is something wrong with simprop.dll, despite having repaired the installation from the original disc. Any suggestions? SkipperMac
October 31, 201213 yr If you have Acceleration installed, uninstall it and run fsx and see if that fixes the problem. If so, reinstall Acceleration after running FSX at least once. October 31, 201213 yr Author Thanks Jim, that worked after a fashion - now its crashing because of visualfx.dll Its beginning to look like a full re-install is the way forward... SkipperMac
November 1, 201213 yr This is usually a missing texture fsx is looking for and cannot find it. One person here found that he had moved his texture folder somewhere else on his harddrive and forgot about it and that caused his crash. In the OP, you stated you did a repair with the installation disc. Did you also run a repair on SP1/SP2 OR Acceleration? A lot of people do a repair with the main FSX disks but forget to repair anything else they installed. Just a thought. Also, as a friendly reminder since I'm on the AVSIM staff here, you are no longer allow to have your specs in your signature. Those have to be placed in your profile. The policy can be found pinned at the top of the FSX Forum (a place where no one sees or reads... lol). Thanks! Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! November 1, 201213 yr Author Hi Jim, I did a repair with the FSX Gold discs, then reinstalled Acceleration. Maybe I ought to try a repair with both when I get back to it tomorrow night. Sorry about the signature - hopefully corrected now. SkipperMac
November 2, 201213 yr Thanks for fixing your signature. You might want to put your system specs in your profile where people can click on it and see what your system specs look like. It's much like your My Simulator profile. I don't understand where you say you did a repair with the FSX Gold, then reinstalled Acceleration as Acceleration is included with FSX Gold so that is all that would have been required. Do you have a separate Acceleration plus FSX Gold? FSX Gold is all you need and it includes everything. That's why I'm saying you might have had an issue with the repair process. The version of visualfx.dll and simprop.dll should be the ones from Acceleration and 10.0.61637.0. Another individual here on AVSIM with a similar problem fixed his problem by renaming the logbook.bin to logbook.orig in the My Document/FSX Files folder. Restarting FSX will rebuild it. If that doesn't solve the problem, then you will want to go back to the original as that has all of your rewards, etc., in it. It gets corrupted occasionally though and it just might fix your problem. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! November 2, 201213 yr Is it just me or have there been many FSX .dll error post's lately? \Robert Hamlich/
November 2, 201213 yr Author Jim, My version of FSX Gold has 3 discs - 2 for FSX, and one for Acceleration. My simprop and visualfx dll versions are correct. And I'll update my profile with my system specs this evening, now that I'm back at my desktop pc. SkipperMac
November 2, 201213 yr So you did uninstall Acceleration, run FSX and see if the problem is gone or still there? Acceleration has caused this problem in the past and I'm trying to rule that out. After you run FSX and see whether it is working properly or not, then reinstall Acceleration. FSX just does not seem to like anyone installing everything all at once. Back when FSX and Acceleration were first released, everyone installed FSX, then later SP1. Those products ran for some time before Microsoft released Acceleration and flight simmers bought that product and installed it. With FSX Gold, flight simmers are installing everything all at once without letting FSX first setup the initial settings and registry keys. This could be the issue. Also, are you reading the errors from your Event Viewer? That's good if you are. I always recommend individuals download and install AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html. Perhaps you have already and this is how you are determining the faulting modules are simprop.dll and visualfx.dll. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! November 2, 201213 yr Author Acceleration uninstalled and FSX now gets to the Home page and begins to load the flight (default Cessna at default KRNT), but when it gets to 72% 'buliding terrain mesh' it stops ... stays stopped ... eventually does nothing ... until I give up and use Task Manager to unload it. SkipperMac
November 2, 201213 yr It looks like you went in and set up a new default flight from the original default (Trike going into Friday Harbor). That could be an issue but first try installing SP1 - http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/downloads/Pages/FlightSimulatorXServicePack1.aspx and see if that fixes it. Since you went to an area other than the default, perhaps FSX is looking for the textures/mesh issued by SP1 (SP1 is installed with Acceleration if it does not see it already installed). November 3, 201213 yr Author I'm in the middle of a reinstall and I think I've found the culprit - HDEv2 textures! Guess who had forgotten he'd installed new textures a while ago  SkipperMac
