Black Square TBM 850 Running in 2024
Hmm, something odd here... No matter where I copy the TBM850 folder to (from its default installation in the 2020 Community folder) it doesn't show in FS2024. I've tried it in my normal add-on aircraft folder linked with Addons Linker, directly in the Community folder, and even in the Official2020/Onestore folder ... but have still not seen the aircraft in the sim. Any suggestions would be VERY welcome.

SSD gone missing :(
SkipperMac replied to SkipperMac's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcOk, "found" it again I set the BIOS so I could hot plug the two spare SATA ports, and after a bit of cable wriggling I 'heard' the SSD being found. Now we're up and running again ... with a couple of better quality cables on order! Thanks for the help guys, I was thinking the worst with a dead SSD in mind lol.

SSD gone missing :(
Hi guys. Yesterday I installed an SSD for the first time, transferring my FSX installation seamlessly across from it's previous home on one of my HDDs. The only installation issue was the device driver not installing properly, but a pc reset or two solved that and the subsequent much faster loading of FSX was very welcome. That was yesterday. Today my pc thinks it doesn't have an SSD, and no matter what I try to do, I can't get it to recognise it's new component. Any ideas? Nothing has changed since yesterday's installation - I haven't even put the side panel back on the case yet - and I can't see how anything could have changed in the software installation either. Any suggestions? I'm grounded until someone finds my SSD for me lol. Cheers, SkipperMac EDIT: Here's a thought - iTunes updated this morning and required a reset (pc wasn't turned off since yesterday). When it rebooted I noticed my desktop 'flying' icons had gone generic and FSX couldn't load ... hence discovering the SSD wasn't being recognised today. Could it be something to do with the iTunes update? Drivers messing about? :(

Small aircraft taxi behaviour
This has nothing to do with VoxATC. Those aircraft are being controlled by the freeware Orbx GA AI files and VoxATC is not even aware of their existence ... unfortunately :(

fuel planning J41
Inigo, I think the step you're actually missing is checking the predicted winds aloft for your routing. If you check that, then you'll know your predicted flight time to the destination airport and can use the lbs per hour estimates for calculating the flight time fuel. Then you need to add fuel to your alternate, and then the required reserve to allow you to hold for 45 mins. The easy way (I find it the easy way anyway) is to use SimBrief.com. This will plan your flight, check the weather, suggest an alternate if you don't input one, and work out how much fuel you'll need. It gives you the same kind of pre-flight briefing you'd get from a dispatcher, and so far it has never failed me ... even in adverse weather.

Can't really help. I'm looking at SimMarket, but I can't find anything to tell me which version the download currently is.

DTG: What would you like to see in a new Flight Simulator?
All of the above (pie in the sky wish list?) ... but add to that a proper, professional, real-world-realistic ATC for VFR and IFR flight.

Flysimware's Cessna C441 Conquest ll out now
Thanks for this! Yeah, I know this is an old post, but thanks anyway - these figures, and seeing that the devs of my almost-favourite turboprop in FSX were using Frictionality, I finally decided to take the plunge. I've been running the FSUIPC Lua script for some time, but was never entirely satisfied as its a one-size-fits-all solution and doesn't take into account the odd way braking efficiency seems to be dealt with in FSX. So far with Frictionality, so good. Leads to the question - does anyone have a fully developed profile suitable for the 441? Joe's figures are a good start point, but what about Wet and Snow covered runways, and different surfaces? Or have I not really understood the program yet. On a different note, I was trying to remember how to program my spare 'mixture' lever to control the condition levers in the 441. As I hunted through the FSUIPC options, I discovered that setting 'Mixture' (yes, I know that belongs to piston engines) gives a wonderful, fully variable reverse thrust on both engines. Now I don't have to use buttons or full-reverse if I don't want to - excellent for moderating taxi speed also! Stay off those brakes ;-)

Flying the Conquest II - By the Numbers
"Should be" perhaps, but it isn't. I assume that by "main install folder" you mean SimObjects/Airplanes/FLYSIM Cessna 441... What is the file name of the manual and I'll do a search for it.

Flying the Conquest II - By the Numbers
It was watching the videos that convinced me I wanted this aircraft in my virtual hangar. Just purchased and downloaded it this evening, and I'm really disappointed that the follow-on videos sound like they're not going to get done :( Edit to add a question: Where did you hide the manual?

ILS approach
Sorry Lee, you'll have to explain more what you mean as descending at 500 ft/min some miles before the runway sounds like a perfectly normal ILS approach to me.

Turning on the ground
Or change it to 180 and have it freely ca storing so you have to use differential braking to steer.

AI Traffic
I'm confused about this AI traffic thing with VoxATC. I use Ultimate Traffic 2 which I understand will operate with VoxATC if the UT2 'bridge' is installed (UT2 running outside FSX makes it a unique traffic program I understand). However, what about all the little packages of FSX traffic that come with the likes of ORBX regions and airports, or all the FSX traffic files that send floatplanes and bush flyers all over Alaska (for instance). One way I read the reviews suggests these are incompatible and FSX Traffic must be set to 0% - on the other hand I read that VoxATC works with ALL traffic. So is it the case that UT2 can generate traffic that VoxATC is aware of and 'controls', but FSX files generated traffic can be seen in the system (if the PC is powerful enough) but will be ignored by VoxATC? Hoping someone can unscramble my brain as I don't want to install the demo and spend 6 out of the 7 days trying to work out how to operate the AI lol.

Carenado really ###### me off sometimes....
This doesn't sound like a flight model problem to me, although I'm no longer familiar with FS9's foibles and never owned a Carenado aeroplane in FS9. What I would suggest is that this has something to do with FS9 not loading the model correctly. Try starting a default flight with the default Cessna, then load the 185 and save that as your 185 startup flight if it works ok.

Easier method of J41 cold/dark startup
Good that you found this video helpful, but just a word of caution: you'd be better reading the section in the tutorial about setting the props back on the start locks as his technique is all wrong (although at least he manages to get them unfeathered - which he calls "feathered" unfortunately - ready for start up). But if you shut the engines down correctly, they'll end up on the start locks anyway - I haven't had to reset mine since my first few attempts at understanding these engines lol.

Be careful with that 240 kts in descent! 240KIAS is surely very close to Vne!!!

FS9 FDE Tweaks ?
Hi Scott. Congrats on acquiring the 208, and for tackling the FDE. I haven't had a chance to take the 208 up again, but once you have your FDE "in beta testing" post some more data and I'll compare with my Stolle/Carenado combo in FSX. Here's some info from real 208 pilots I cut n pasted - think they came from this forum so if you dive down deep enough you should come across them. ================ On any turboprop engine you have torque, temp, and engine rpm limits. on takoff push the power up untill you either torque out or temp out. rotate at 75 climb at 500 feet a minute unless atc asks for something else. the climb is the same. for cruise and descent I pull the prop back to 1850 rpm and use 1500 pounds torque, 700 degrees, or 100 percent engine rpm, whatever happens first.flying approaches in the caravan i use 10 flaps, 1100 pounds torque gives you 120 kts, for the ILS bring the prop back to max and about 700 pounds torque will maintain 120 kts. Here's the link to the post, there is more info here: This from my kneeboard, whcih I think was actually written by FedEx Caravan Pilot.Just copy and paste it into the `notes` page and you're setFrom my more than 600 hours in the real Caravan, here's what I can remember... I fly the default Caravan off these numbers, and it works just fine. The only thing I find wrong is it doesnt slow down as fast as the real airplane. In the real Caravan, ESPECIALLY the ones with the composite prop, when you go to flight idle the airplane STOPS! Anywho...Takeoff: 1865lbs of torque. You will notice a little red line in about the 4 o'clock position on the guage. In the real airplane, it says "T.O." in little letters.. Climb: About 1600lbs of torque. Also check your ITT.. Climb, Cruise, and Decent ITT limit is 740, so whatever torque setting keeps under that.Cruise: anywhere between 1400 and 1600lbs.. Most of the time we run our Caravans at 1450. That keeps the ITT below 700, and gives you right at 160kts. Also, we never moved the prop from 1900rpm...Decent: Hauling cargo, we were always "balls to the walls", but about 1200lbs of torque will keep you below redline at 500'/minute down.Approach: here's where it gets tricky. about 1200-1500 lbs of torque when your at your initial approach altitude. You can put flaps 10 all the way up to red line, so put them out before you reach the outer marker. When you intercept the glideslope, power back to 1000 and LEAVE it there. Throw out flaps 20 at 150, and flaps 30 at 125. It should keep you on the glideslope in about the 100kt range. We would normally shoot approaches in the 120/130kt range... I think alot of people's problem is flying the Caravan TOO slow in FS.Landing: There is no formula for that.... just chop the power and PRAY!The PT-6 has a BIG lag in them, and you have to be ahead of it. When you make power settings, go to a value you know works and leave it there. Hunting power settings in the real Caravan will get you killed on approach.Anywho, I hope this helps! I miss flying the real airplane, and MS did a good job (in my opinion) on their Caravan!ChasW ================ Hope some of that gives you a bit of a steer as to what you should be seeing. Mac

FS9 FDE Tweaks ?
Hi Scott, Welcome to the world of Carenado's 208. I have the FSX version (not the updated HD one which I think ONLY updates the texturing and not the depth of systems modelling) and found the original FDE pretty boring. Bernt Stolle has an updated FSX FDE which is available on the Carenado website - its better, but still not the most exciting, but at least seems to fly by the few numbers I've been able to discover online. Yes, Carenado don't exactly excell in the manuals department. I haven't flown it for a few weeks, and I'm not quite sure when I can lift the nose on takeoff, but it certainly doesn't "leap into the air" and has a pretty fluid motion, both on takeoff and landing. Definitely better than the default 208, or the default Carenado FDE! Of course, your challenge is to convert it to your "dinosaur" flightsim ;-) I'll keep an eye on this thread, and if I can be of any help, just ask. I'll fire it up, maybe this evening, and remind myself how it flies. I also have a couple of links I picked up (possibly here on AVSIM?) from real 208 pilots, but you may already have sourced that info. Regards, Mac

C208 VERSIONS
Oops, sorry for the double post - AVSIM told me the server was down lol

C208 VERSIONS
Going by the 'rotate' cursor shape, this is X-Plane, not FSX. Which makes me even more mad at Carenado if the FSX HD version STILL doesn't have 3-position switches, etc. Thankfully I decided not to upgrade until I had read some reviews, and this video makes it pretty evident that their 'upgrade' is merely cosmetic.

C208 HD wont start I mean th engine wont kick over.
I suspect you have recently saved a new Default flight - some of the settings are carried over from the Default flight, and it's possible that something in the other aircraft is turned off. Try saving a new Default for now with the C172 shut down, and then see if the 208 will start. Don't worry, I'm sure you haven't terminally broken it! The other option is to try Ctrl-E for the auto engine start procedure. I'm not sure if that works with the Carenado 208 though, and I'm at the other side of the world from my SimPC at the moment lol. If that starts the engine, save a C208 flight which you can access anytime you want to fly this load-lugger.
