November 1, 201213 yr Need some clarification. Am using CH Flight Sim Yoke USB for FS4 and FSX. Works fine when flying however I am constantly (it seems) having to re-calibrate. Mostly this occurrs when opening either program (though not always). Often happens when the program has been open awhile, but not used. Recently saw something in the forum about use of CH Control Manager that seemed to say Manager should be used for calibration, not Windows. Currently Manager is not loaded. Any info or advice greatly appreciated.
November 2, 201213 yr The CH Manager has it's own calibration softrware. You don't need to use CH Manager itself (which is primariliy for programming the buttons, etc), but the calibration utility works well on my system (Win7 64 bit). Graeme Butler
November 2, 201213 yr Definitely download the latest Control Manager software from CH Products and install it. It has a variety of uses not related to programming the hardware. For example, once you're running CH Manager and run through the calibration, use the test function to see if you're getting proper response. Turn your wheel left and right slowly, and push it in and pull it out. Does the indicator exactly match your motions? The CH Yoke has a problem with the way the potentiometers are installed. They use a solderless connection so that users can replace the pots if necessary. Sometimes the connections are not very good. I've had two yokes, and both of them had problems with the pitch axis where the centering would suddenly change, and response was bad with lags and jumps. After I took the old yoke apart to see what the problem might be, I discovered the intermittent connection problem. So far, it's been easy to solve. I simply drop the yoke the last half inch onto the desk to give it a good whack, and have had NO problems with the pitch axis since. Percussive maintenance for the win! The Control Manager also allows you to change the response curves on the various axes if you need to. My rudder pedals have two clicks of flattening, and the elevator control has one. This does not produce a different device for the flight sim control file, but seems to only affect the driver software. If you do any programming (for example to remove jitter from an older device), this will add a device to the flight sim control file, but it's nice to have the option when you need it. Good luck.
