Move Flight Simulator X Files

Featured Replies

Hello,

To save space on my C: drive, i am trying to move the 2 Gigabyte Flight Simulator X Files to my J: drive. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks

ABC

I have never tried it but suppose you could try at least. Just move the whole FSX folder to the J drive, then run the FlightOne Registry Repair program - http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library. Then you'll have to go into your dll.xml and change all the addon locations from C:\ to J:\ (if you moved them all too). Then I would look at your fsx.cfg and make sure it is showing all the proper destinations. The scenery.cfg should be okay as is.

Best regards,

Jim

Actually, my FSX files are on my J: drive already. Its just the one folder, Flight Simulator X Files, that didn't move. I currently have no addons so that wouldn't be an issue. I dont know anything about how FSX works. THis may be a simple fix.

Thanks

What's in the folder? A regular FSX install runs around 14gb+- and if you have FSX installed to another drive, where did these files come from?

My Flight Simulator X folder in my My Documents folder is only about 27 meg. It includes saved flights, flight plans, and the log book file. While it's unlikely that there's any way to move the entire folder, you can move seldom used flights and flight plans to another drive, although FSX will not access them there. Copy back as necessary. If you have a saved flight that includes a flight plan, that flight plan must be available to FSX when you load the flight.

I've seen a method in the past to move My Documents to another drive, but I don't know if it works with the newest Windows versions.

Just leave it where it is. It will not impact FSX performance, and there is no easy way to move it.

if you do not need some of the files in this folder, delete them.
