So far they have about 60 orders - both firm and options. Boeing's web site is a good source ...Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
July 16, 200421 yr Counterpoint:Not sure myself if it's such a good thing that the FS community has fostered a reputation as a place to go where people will heap all sorts of attention and praise upon you...all without your actually having produced a blasted thing.OTOH, Boeing has a good chance of actually rolling a production 7E7 off the line before we see some of the FS add-ons that have been so far nothing but a collection of pie-in-the-sky pre-release announcements accompanied by a couple screenshots and then followed by release date slip after release date slip after release date slip.To paraphrase the Jedi Master Yoda:Pre-release not! Release, or release not. There is no pre-release.or to paraphrase the late great P. T. July 17, 200421 yr Hi Everyone,I too am really glad to see that Boeing decided to place an advertisement with AVSIM. This falls right in line with their decision to do a lot of TV adds. Boeing has received a lot bad press in the last couple of years leading up to the resignations of their CEO and other key management personnel. Not to mention the constant barrage of marketing hype from Airbus about their being the industry leader in commercial plane deliveries.Last year I got a email from Boeing, don
July 17, 200421 yr I have never understood why non-consumer product companies like Boeing spend money to advertise on T.V. or other mass-market media. It's not like I'm going to see a commercial and say "that 7E7 looks pretty cool, I think I'll get me one" (OK, maybe John Travolta might). Almost all of the flying public don't care what type of plane they are on, as long as the ticket was cheap, and airline buyers aren't swayed by corporate image ads.Such commercials might create some kind of corporate awareness with the public, but what good does that do? Many of the worlds largest companies are virtually unknown and still thrive in obscurity (who ever heard of Halliburton up until rececently?).
July 18, 200421 yr That's true, to an extent. Personally, If I have a choice, I will fly with an airline that has an Aircraft I like. For example, the 777 is one incredible bird. The bathrooms are twice the size of previous lavatories, and it makes a huge difference. I have picked flights that have a 777 even if they are longer, compared to a DC-10 or MD-11 because the DC-10/MD-11 seating in coach is so horrible. (Especially if your stuck in the middle of the 5 or 6 deep center aisle)I also like Embrarers because as a person of size, (although my surgery is causing that to diminish), I liked the idea of booking the single seat aisle, so that I would not unduly make anyone uncomfortable. As prices on air travel plummet, the airline community will get more and more competitive. If the A380, is seen as nothing more than a cattle car in coach, and the 7E7 can provide more comfort for the passenger, then passengers will choose the plane that they like better.Continental and Delta have gone to almost pure jet commuter fleets because the noise and general discomfort in turbo props. Although none of us will buy a 7E7, it is more than likely that if we like what we fly, we will give the airline our business that has the type of plane we enjoy the trip in the most.
