Flying in the rain

Featured Replies

Is it just me or is flying in the rain really unrealistic and just looks plain old rubbish?

Is there any addon that can enhance the environment when flying in wet conditions to simulate for example the reflections on the ground that you get after rain, standing water, more realistic rain effects etc?

Cheers

REX has textures for wet runways and taxiways... I think there are 3 to choose from. As with everything from REX they look great.

As for the more realistic rain effects I don't think so. FS2004 used to have raindrops on the windows whilst in the VC but it was excluded from FSX.

Thanks Chris.

Do the Rex textures work with add on airports or only default?

Most addon airports have their own custom ground textures, so it depends....

CASE: Fractal Terra Silver CPU: AMD R5 7800X3D 5.0Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 GPU: nVidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER · SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe · PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB M.2 PCIe · VIDEO: LG-32GK650F QHD 32" 144Hz FREE/G-SYNC · MISC: Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Joystick + Throttle Quadrant · MSFS2024 · Windows 11

This may help enhance some of the effects.

Some addon aircraft, like the Lotus sim L39 and ,some others have the vc rain effect modelled

Thanks Chris.

Do the Rex textures work with add on airports or only default?

They generally, only affect the default textures,as most addon airports use their own custom texture.

That's what I presumed as I have REX and noticed that after a departure from Aerosoft LEMD in the rain everything looked dry lol.

I only really like flying to add on airports as I find the default ones so dull!

There are some Aircraft that emulate it fairly well but I do not think there is a general rain effect addon. Wish there was.

Except for this part which is FS9 only:

Bonus features for FS9:

* New rainfall effects for very light, light, moderate, and heavy rain conditions.

* New Virtual Cockpit rain effects greatly enhance your VC rain experience during flight.

* New snowfall effects for very light, light, moderate and heavy snow conditions.

* New environment map makes reflections on aircraft and bare metal fuselages even more realistic.
