If you don't want to find the error in the Event Viewer, there's one more method of maybe finding the offending program. Download and run Process Monitor - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx. Start up FSX and get to the setup screen. Just before hitting the Fly Now button, click on Process Monitor then the Fly Now. Once it freezes, go to the Process Monitor and save the file as, say, FSXCrash. Once saved, open it up and review it for the last entries around the time of the crash.

Best regards,

Jim

  • 1 year later...

Hello all,

I too had this same problem.  Specifically what my issue was that the first flight game load went to 100% and then stop.  Rats.

Some background on my situation.  I simply had not had time to enjoy the FSX hobby and let my machine set for almost 9 months.

Now I came back and I had a lot of updating to do.  FSUIPC4, Windows Updates, Driver Updates.

I performed all of these to no avail, but the final part of the puzzle was the backup/rename of my FSX.CSG file.

In doing that I lost some models but I got my basic FSX program working.  Hopefully it will handle the add ons.

Thanks for the posts.  I know I am coming into this thread a little late but this information posted here helped a bunch.

Respectfully,

Jet

Thanks for posting your solution.  Renaming or deleting the Fsx.cfg resolves a lot of crashes.
