Clutch, I know that you and others do this. I can understand how that can work for standard scenery library add-ons, but I haven't got it sorted for the UTs, GEX and Orbx. Do you have a simple cookbook for these. It most certainly would turn the sequential reinstallation process into something more tolerable.

Ian,

I use UT and GEX in FSX and find that P3D's scenery looks about the same, and in some cases much better, without any of these. The scenery is FSX on vitamins and the performance is the same. There are a few things such as the flight planner that don't work as smoothly, but they do work and, once set up, require no further input. I have had no experience with ORBIX so I can't comment on that. Looks good, but I'm happy with what I have.

I like that, John "The scenery is FSX on Vitamins" Definitely not on steroids, yet, ha. Ian, what's worked for me was I am taking my time re-installing. I don't try to put everything in all at once. I add maybe one or two things then check it out to make sure all is a-ok. I also created a complete copy of P3D in its default form (I have the space). This way if anything goes terribly wrong I can just copy over files (or the entire folder), to get P3D back to its natural state. Haven't had to that but it's nice insurance.

I think I used the FSX-to-P3D migration tool for any intricate type addons. Think I used that for my UT Alaska and it installed just fine as far as I know - that is, I haven't noticed anything. Did that with Tongass Fjords as well. For Orbx I was just using there new installers as they can now point to P3D. Issue there is the .dlls. Guess it's an issue as far as I can tell at their site it is not completely fixed. I really need to go beck and see what's happening on the dll front over there.

I recently made the switch from FSX to P3D and have been very pleased overall. The default scenery looks much more realistic in my region than default FSX or event GEX/UTX. I've looked through the revision notes of Prepar3D and am unable to determine when LM revised its land lass, texture, DEM and surface data. Was this included in the 1.4 release?

Sorry if I came across as if I am inexperienced with P3D. I have been in it from the start and it has got better and better, and for me 1.4 runs extremely well. My point was that I wish the next upgrade would be a conventional process of installing over the existing version.

I thought I had started the FSX on vitamin description but as it isn't patented all power to others who find it helpful. I have also said that I hope v2.0 is FSX on steroids, and I am happy to pay for a new version as we did with FS the next in the days when they took it seriously.

I run all of the Orbx North American regions over UT and GEX. Also I have UT Alaska and also run UT and GEX Europe. I will soon have Orbx England over these. I also have many Aerosoft airports, UK2000 series, as well as from other developers.

Of course I have Orbx Australia and both New Zealands, as well as Melbourne and Brisbane and a few other of their Aus airports. Not to mention OzX and Ants airports as well.

In aircraft I have most of the Carenados including the new Kingair which is great, the PMDG and iFly 737s, the Blackbox Simulations Airbus Prologue which is the best of the bunch at the moment - and I am holding my breath for the three Bus' still to come, one from BBS, another from Aerosoft, the other from FSLabs. Also I am hanging out for the Majestic Dash 8 Q400.

I use the OpusX weather engine matched with REX textures, but I have others, plus a bunch of other utilities, but they add upl FSCommander 9 and Plan G are both important to me.

I run this with a medium to high end rig on P3D without real problems. However I would like to not have to completely re-install all of these when the next 1.5 comes out.

Ian, since you have been with P3D from the start, maybe you may already know. When you went from 1.2 to 1.3 and 1.3 to 1.4 did you have to re-stall the program from scratch? I came on during 1.4 so I have no idea.

Yes you do. Each update is a clean reinstall. Uninstall the old version, all folders, Appdata Roaming and Program Data.

However it isn't quite so bad as of course you will have backed the complete old version up onto a storage disc, so much can be replaced after the new one is reinstalled. I am experimenting with FTX Central set to default and the re-applying a region after the new version is running .. as the folder address is the same.

Also UT and GEX should be able to be re-run as well, as they are already outside the game, and as long as the folder address is unchanged it should be all right, fingers crossed.

There is one small bonus, scenery or aircraft that you don't use can be left out, so it does have its own discipline and opportunities.

But it is still a pain in the a... but in the end worth it.

KInd regards,

Ian McPhail
