November 27, 201213 yr Hopefully my broken FS9 PC will once again 'fly' next month coinciding with a temporary return to prosperity. That said I would like to add the above to my Mid East collection but I am extremely wary since both are authored by FSDG. I say wary for I only get 5-7 fps using default Cessna at Djerba even after the patch AND treatment with AlphaSearcher et al. Would some kind soul report their frames/smoothness experiences with the above (I realise Heraklion has only been released for FS9.) Many thanks in advance.
November 27, 201213 yr I'd be interested in the answer to this as well. Djerba's terminal seems to kill things stone dead on my system - again like you things become a slideshow.
November 27, 201213 yr I don't recall any fps problem with HESH though if I remember correctly, there were quite a few textures I had to fix. It's not a scenery I'd recommend highly. It's competent and has some good features but if you are having to budget your flight sim money, I think there are sceneries you would get better value for money with unless having an airport in that particular region meets a serious need. It's not a BAD scenery - it is very competent. But there are many that are available now that IMO are better value for the money. I can't comment on Heraklion as I don't have it... Ian
November 28, 201213 yr Author Many thanks for your response Ian. I can 'read between the lines' ... wait for a sale.
November 28, 201213 yr I loaded up Aerosoft's Heraklion X for FS9 today. Interestingly, I get stutters with this scenery which is really unusual. I'm working through my installation bit by bit; I have Greek Airport scenery which may well be interfering.
November 28, 201213 yr Author Good of you to reply WingZ. Hope you can solve the stutters ... often worse than just low fps. Keep in touch.
November 28, 201213 yr I'm puzzled. When I checked on Aerosoft's site, the only mention I could find for Heraklion was that it is being released on November 29th and is for FSX only???? I hate to miss a chance to gaze longingly at a scenery I know I can't afford to buy!!! ^_^ Many thanks for your response Ian. I can 'read between the lines' ... wait for a sale. :wink2:
November 28, 201213 yr Author 'm puzzled I often am these days. I learned of the FS9 version on Aerosoft Sim News website. There was also a brief release announcement on Aerosoft's European Online Shop home page. The product page had also been extensively altered to reflect the FS9 version. Perhaps you were viewing the US shop? Maybe they are less concerned with Euro sceneries than American ones, eh? Or is it merely the time difference?

The product page had also been extensively altered to reflect the FS9 version. Perhaps you were viewing the US shop? Maybe they are less concerned with Euro sceneries than American ones, eh? Or is it merely the time difference? Your guess about the US shop is correct. It's listed on there as not yet released and as FSX only, but on the European site I found it immediately. What makes that even more illogical is that when you purchase via the US shop, the actual credit card transaction takes place via a German site and the transaction is in Euros, so you often end up paying a different price (invariably higher) than the price stated in US Dollars. So other than shipping boxed products, I'm not quite sure what function the "US shop" actually has that couldn't be done just as well from the English language European site... So now the question is - is the FS9 version as good as the screenies look (they are clearly FSX) and how is the performanc???. My credit card awaits this vital information.... One other question for anyone who has installed it... Is the military side of the airfield active or is it closed? On the screenies, it looks like it may have been shut down... I hope not, as MAIW has some very good HAF aircraft and it would be fun to see them using the base
November 29, 201213 yr Good of you to reply WingZ. Hope you can solve the stutters ... often worse than just low fps. Keep in touch. Alas no... and it's fps as well I'm afraid.I installed this on a vanilla sim, just to make sure there wasn't texture interference from a previous scenery. The overall look of the thing is awful too, muddy is the closest description. It's off my HDD, and the money is down the drain. Pity, because I did look forward to the military side (yes it's there) Perhaps this is the result of writing an FSX-optimised scenery to FS9?
November 29, 201213 yr Author It's off my HDD, and the money is down the drain Oh dear, literally ... I seem to recall Thorsen on their forum stating that they design sceneries requiring shadows to be turned off in order to obtain 'reasonable' fps. Pretty strange that. By any chance did you happen to notice whether Alpha Channels were present? As per pinned topic above. Looks like my intended purchases are not the best investment right now. Will see if a patch for Heraklion is forthcoming ... normally the case these days. In the meantime thanks guys for saving my bacon.
November 29, 201213 yr did you happen to notice whether Alpha Channels were present? Yes I did look at alpha - was OK for the structures, I tend not to mess with the ground images as you get unpredictable results. I added mips to a few fences too. The issue is with the 3D stuff though.I'm fairly unhappy, not least because I feel bad about not enthusing about an FS9 release!
November 29, 201213 yr Author The overall look of the thing is awful too, muddy is the closest description. I've just visited the Aerosoft forums where they have a thread running on FS9 Heraklion. Rainer Duda, a respected simmer, beta tester and screenshot guru has uploaded a bunch of screenies. Might be interesting to compare them with your experience.
November 29, 201213 yr Yes I didn't want to go there and comment, because I have nothing positive to contribute. I did save something: you get a good mesh which is great for chasing HAF F-4E's around the place, and so tweaked some of MAIW's finest to spend more time at LGIR in my military sim!

I did save something: you get a good mesh which is great for chasing HAF F-4E's around the place, and so tweaked some of MAIW's finest to spend more time at LGIR in my military sim! Even if it's not a positive thing, I still hope you'll make your experience known on the Aerosoft forum. They can be a bit sensitive sometimes in reacting to criticisms, but in a case like this I'm certain they will respond in a fair way and will try to solve the problem. But until I hear that the issues are being addressed, I will sadly stay away from it. As a fellow Kiwi, we both know that Crete is somewhat "hallowed ground" for our country and I was really excited when I learned this scenery was out..... I will keep my fingers crossed Cheers mate Ian
