December 2, 201213 yr Hi guys, I am still a little new to AVSIM so please if this is not the place then please direct me to the proper place to ask. I have read as much recent review matierial on both so far as I could find. A friend of mine has REX but I think an earlier version. We were looking at it via skype today. THAT SAID, I would like such a program however the reviews I have read elsewhere say that Active Sky has less drop in FPS so I am leaning that direction. I am looking for something that will give me realistic weather. THANKS in advance. Respectfully, Jet
December 2, 201213 yr You're going to get plenty of different opinions... There are a couple of things here - textures and the weather engine. While both REX and AS have both, you don't have to use them as one - ie you can use REX textures with the AS (or Opus) weather engine. Weather textures are completely a matter of opinion. I like AS, but that's just me. The weather engine depends on whether you're flying in the flight levels or the weeds. Some might be considered better than others for certain types of flying. I use AS up high and Opus or AS down low. Mike Dryden
December 3, 201213 yr Author Hi Mickel. Thanks! I can only afford one right now. I will be in the flight levels and would prefer realistic contrails and realistic clouds and thunderstorms to top if you would. Corporate and airline jet guy here. Plus realistic fog and patchy fog plus realistic visabilities. LOL I dont want much or anything. If you would take a peak at my performance on my rig and see what you may suggest. Im just afraid of software that will slow me down is all. My next homebuild will have all the latest and greatest. Respectfully, Jet
December 3, 201213 yr AS2012 then. There are a couple of threads about weather in the last little while with lots of discussion. Mike Dryden
December 3, 201213 yr Author Oh ok then that helps a lot and thanks. I must have missed them. I appreciate it. If you get a moment how about a few of your better screen shots sometime! Respectfully, Jet
