FS9?

Featured Replies

I've been reading this and other forums since way before FS9 came out and I'm still not convinced that I would benefit by ditching FS2002.Weather - I use ActiveSky and Chris Willis's clouds!Terrain - I use improved meshes and textures with Gerrish Grey's trees and autogen replacements. I also use OceanFX!AI - I use Ultimate Traffic with extras created by AITM, Traffic Tools and AFCAD!Airports - I have addons for most of my favourites free and payware!Aircraft - I fly mainly PSS and Dreamfleet!ATC - Radar Contact is superior and when Ver.4.0 comes out it'll be amazing!I fly all this on my modest rig with FDC and AIBlast with no tweaking, fiddling or fretting - just enjoying. Of course if I were starting from squat I'd probably buy FS9 then I'd have some of the above - but would I?Take up the challenge my friends and persuade me otherwise - what exactly would I gain?

IFR on the fly? Clickable V/C? Way smarter ATC. Way better weather. It's $20 at Comp USA I hear. Most of my old PSS planes work in MSFS 2004 too (Dash 8, Vulcan, PSS Airbus Pro).XP Home SP1Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 2x512MBGeForce FX 5700 256MB (56.72)SB AudigyMSFF2 & X45 throttleSee you in the fence...CYYZ

Yeah, if you fly IFR you'll definitely like ATC's multiple runway operations and non-precision approaches. And don't forget the improved GPS.

Forgot too, all airport's have taxi way signs now. XP Home SP1Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 2x512MBGeForce FX 5700 256MB (56.72)SB AudigyMSFF2 & X45 throttleSee you in the fence...CYYZ

No need to ditch FS2002.. you can fly the two, side-by-side for a while. That is what I did. After moving over my favorite mesh sceneries and my best payware planes, as well as installing Chris Willis' FS9 clouds, I finally decided that I no longer needed FS2002 and deleted it off my hard drive.. and never regretted it.For me, FS9 looks better, performs better, and allows me to fly the latest add-ons...
