GEX vs ORBX for high altitude North American flying

In this discussion is ; FSGlobal 2010/Ground Environment X (US/Canada/Europe etc) / UTX (US/Canada/ Europe etc) alsoa option?

Does it include night lighting, and different seasons?

Unfortunately not as that would double or triple the size of each product.. Personally I don't even care for night lightning other than when flying slow and that's when you see normal ground instead of FSAltitude around you anyway.

Without FSAltitude & other photoreal products everything looks so ugly anyway that I don't even bother looking down most of the time when cruising as everything is so generic.

UTX will tend to decrease frames because you're adding night lighting, accurate roads, coastlines, urban landclass and such.

Unless you use the 3D lighting option, or add ground traffic, UTX shouldn't affect frames that much if at all. As been said OrBx strong suit is low and slow, and is very good, but it can be a performance hog! Looking at the OP's specs he may not enough under the hood, unless he can over clock it a little higher. I know I can't do it well with the 3Ghz processor I have. Orbx really needs those 4Ghz+ I7's to be happy!!!

Thanks

Very true. My laptop is my only option for fsx right now and it can at times struggle for frames. For this reason I am going to purchase MT2013 and probably GEX to increase my frames slightly.

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I'll go with GEX for now and see how it goes. Still deciding on UTX. Is it really a necessity with GEX or could I do without it for a bit?

Again, GEX wil just change the look of the landscape, not do anything for accuracy, like realistc placement of roads, rivers, lakes, shorlines, cities, towns etc. I'd get UTX long before GEX.
