Fog on high flight level

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I'm actual having a small problem after playing around with the weather settings according to this page (it's German but look at the pictures):

http://www.friendlyf...&threadID=18364

After that I'm having sometimes a kind of fog or clouds on nearly all FL. It's on FL410 and also on FL310,270,260,... Sometimes it's disappearing again and coming back again. There is no "model" to see.

On my flight EDDF-LSGG it did not appear. On the backflight I had it nearly the hole flight with some breaks between.

It looks like there is a fault with the clouds... Maybe it's also a problem with the visibility?

It looks like:

I made all changes as described on the page above and it looks very good without these fog. I'm using registrated version of FSUIPC and FS2004 with Active Sky Evolution+Freeware HDEv2. No other addons that effect the weather like REX,...

Greetings Eddi

Hi go into FSUIPC and use clear all weather settings this fixed the problem for me.

Regards and Merry Christmas

Hi go into FSUIPC and use clear all weather settings this fixed the problem for me.

Thanks, but it did not really help :(

Here are some additional picture where you may can see the problem better. Look on the second picture, there you see something strange. It looks I'm flying over a coast but I'm over the alps.

Maybe a problem with fog layers?

I made some more tests to try to isolate the problem.

I deactivated all FSUIPC settings concerning weather -> no result

Played around with ASE settings (visibility,layers,...) -> no result

Deleted my actual FS9.cfg to get a clear one and see if the problem is coming from the .cfg -> also no result

Delete and put a new install of ASE on my PC -> no result

Used IVAO Weather instead of ASE -> seems it is the problem! But why is ASE the problem? Is there maybe a problem on how to manage the data?

Sometimes its working great and FS is giving me a wonderful sky. So I also think it's not a problem from FS side.

Someone knows how to fix it? It's really disturbing.

Thanks

This worked for me - go to ASE - options - visibility options - maximum upper visibility - increase this value to over 100 if necessary. Mine is in about 90.

Hope that works

Thanks for the hint but seems not working. Actual flying on FL300 and since departure in EDDF no change.

Actual visibility settings:

Min. Surface Vis: 0 SM

Max. Surface Vis: 63 SM

Max. Upper Vis: 125 SM

I've done yesterday a VFR flight on around 2500ft and there is no problem. Had nice clouds and no issues.

EDIT: Actual looking like this

Over EGWU it's looking like this (with the markes moving "edge" or whatever it is)

Interesting:

Actual cruising over the Atlantic Ocean at FL340 and now everxthing is fine since maybe 1-2hrs. Only thing is the soft horizon but this is better then the fog.

I have the same issue.

I'm pretty sure (well.. I think) it is caused by a texture of a sky texture add-on.

Since I have a few of those add-ons, I don't know which one it is.

Guys I had a similar problem and I believe it was on Jan 23 also. I am using AS6. Did a flight from KPHL to KBOS. AS6 metar showed partly couldy skies at 5000 I believe. No precipitaion. Everything was fine until I was on a 5 mile final. Then fog everywhere all the way to the runway. Couldn't see the ground at all. As soon as I touched down the fog was gone and the weather in the sim showed what it was supposed to. I just figured it was a problem with AS. This was the first day the servers were running normally again after the last problem they had. I haven't seen the problem again.

Thanks for your comments. As I'm using only Pablo Diaz HDEv2 for FS2004 I guessed it was not the problem with his textures. So I played again around with ASE settings.

It was a mistake, but I switched in the Options menu the simulator (upper left corner drop down menu). Of course ASE wasn't able to find a FSX as I'm not owing FSX.

After I could switch back to FS9 it seems he reseted all settings. And it also seems that was the solution. Now it seems to work as it should, no fog anymore.

After that I started to set up my FSUIPC again and made changes on the FS9.cfg ([WEATHER]). Its described here: http://www.friendlyflusi.at/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=18364

When I now turn on the "Apply vis limits" I'll sometimes get the fog back. I had it now over Ireland. But after turning the option off, the fog disappeared.

So one question with the hope everything will went well ;):

Any change to get the horizon also soft like on the pictures without creating the fog again? Actual trying to set the sliders of the visibility options as seen in the picture.

But I also think this will may cause the problem in a form again as jason said I have to increase the vis.

Thanks mates :)

There is a set of sky textures called "soft horizon" I think available in the library, but unfortunately they use the quite unreal sky colours of FS2004s stock sky textures. Thats the cause why I chose HDEv2 textures with "hard horizon" in combination with FSUIPCs "apply vis limits" option. Using FSUIPC (but no ASE) I have the above said fog at high FLs, too, but I have learned not to mind...
