FSX fatal errors after new card install

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Experiencing some strange issues after installing a new 660 ti in my system (E7500 oc'd to 3.63 ghz, 4gb 1333 DDR3). Previously had a 450GTS working with zero issues. Uninstalled previous card, went through the driver uninstall as I normally do, installed the new card and then the 306.97 drivers. First the flight would load as normal but would get ground and terrain shaking. After uninstalling then re-installing the driver I get a fatal error (Crash details are attached in the .txt file). I also let the fsx.cfg rebuild itself as well and that did not help. I have tried several different Nvidia drivers to no avail. No overclock on the card and plenty of power, no other issues with any other programs.

I'm pretty savy with these types of problems but I am stumped as to what is going on. Another strange thing is that the calendar in the free flight menu is not showing up. It is just a box that says "calendar".

Any help you could provide is grealty appreciated!

Hi Mike,

Your crash report shows the crash is from GvKm.dll_unloaded which is strange, and I have never seen this before. Jim, (firehawk44) might have some more knowlege about this file?

Did some research, and seems that you are the first with this error!

Accourding to "systemexplorer.net", GvKm.dll_unloaded isn't even an windows file. In that case, I would scan your entire system for malware and virus's.

Also, go through and re-install your card drivers and C++ redistrabutibles just in case. You never know.

Good luck with this one!

I've seen *.dll_unloaded in crash reports before, but it's always when FSX crashed when I tried to exit. Look for GvKm.dll instead.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

GvKm.dll would appear to be part of the Gigabyte overclocking software,

I would look there for problems, or with the overclock itself.

That's the first thing I did when I researched. GvKm.dll is a mysterious file that I, nor anybody else has heard of.

Maybe it's a DLL in a FSX addon that I am completely unaware of...

Where did you find that exactly? I would think I would find some info from that file on google, but nothing!

UPDATE

Ah, found something that had to do with overclocking software also.

Mike,

Who is the manufacturer of the 660 TI? Is it Gigabyte and did you install any Gigabyte software? If so uninstall any Gigabyte applications and see if that corrects your problems.

Regards,

Bob

You guys are the best!

It figures that as soon as I posted the question I thought "well maybe the gigabyte software that I installed is the problem?!" Sure enough as soon as I disabled it everything was fine. Hopefully someone else may stumble across this thread as a help if they run into the same issue.

I really appreciate everyone's help with this one!

Take care,
