  1. I'll break out the manuals later and see what it says about trim
  2. I think it would be good to use it as the glass, but then i've never tried the project, it would be nice to have glass in the screens, but wonder iff it would still work from behind it.
  3. That would be nice, working on building a simulator from the half an aircraft sat in the garage lol, and was wondering what to do for a view screen, this would sort that out perfectly
  4. Sadly, no lol. I am how ever a certified aviation nut with an extensive library Oh, and regarding the GPS, in this setup, GPS 1 feeds into ADIRS1, GPS2 feeds into ADIRS2, GPS 1 also feeds into ADIRS3 under normal conditions
  5. This might help, a picture speaks a thousand words straight from the FMS manual, the 3 ADIRS are what you were after....
  6. Tricky question, but what I can say is if the Flight Directors disengage in certain modes, then the Auto Throttle reverts from THRUST mode to SPEED mode and tries to attain the speed target. The Auto-Thrust itself though is a function of the FMGS through the Master FMGC normally. If everything is working and set normally the Autpoilot with flight director and auto thrust are linked together. Not sure if that helps.
  7. I can see this being good after development, If you build a home cockpit and want the view outside the windscreen, no more multi-monitor or projector setup required, just put the material instead of the glass and screens for an outside view, could be very usefull and a cheap option for a full all round view outside.
  8. Okay here goes, There are 2 FMGC's (Flight Management Guidance Computers), The Master And Slave. Inputs are from ILS, Radio Altitude, VOR, DME, Data base, Clock, Fuel, ADIRS (Air Data Inertial Reference System), Thrust Levers. The FMGC's talk to/from the FAC (Flight Augmentation Computer Which handles things such as Yam Damping, Rudder Trim, Rudder Limiting, Flight Envelope Protection, and Speed Computation), FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control), CPCU (Cabin Pressure Control Unit), EFIS (Electronic Flight Information System), Radio Navigation Auto-Tuning, ECAM (Electronic Centralised Aircraft Monitoring), the FCU (Flight Control Unit), and the MCDU (Multi Control & Display Unit). So essentially the FMGC's are the Autopilot and Brains of the Aircraft, Hope that answers your question.
  9. I for one can say I love all the products and have them all installed, some of them take time right enough, and bed time is a good time to download whilst asleep for the bigger ones. All the sceneries are impressive though to say the least. 1 or 2 issues to install, but I had help in the same day as my requests, so cannot grumble there. I hope Darren & Vicki both keep producing more scenery to brighten up FSX
  10. According to the Airplane Flight Manual, The Integrated Standby Flight Display (ISFD) System (if installed) includes a dedicated battery that provides an additional 150 minutes minimum of ISFD operation following the loss of standby power (main battery depletion).
  11. It depends mostly on the aircraft, Those shots vary between 0.60-0.80 depending on which one. 0.6 Tends to give the extruded appearance of 3d objects, noticeable on some of those, but only did that to see a larger area for the shots. Normally I find 0.8 does for most aircraft without any visual distortion for flying.
  12. Here's some snap shots from mine for reference of viewing real estate..... http://www.flickr.com/photos/saraslave/
  13. That maybe true, But it is plug and play, No user input required or additional connectors. It is what it is so to speak.
  14. I Only use 1 6990, it is a dual processor card, so no crossfire setup, and running at 2560x1600. 4 very detailed airports around a city when you can see them all, and set at high detail do that, I know what eats into the fps, The point is that it is smooth all the way in, no stutters or jerks is what counts. I think that zero crash landings and flying the PMDG 737 & Coolsky DC9 in to Heathrow makes it okay for me.
  15. Hey hey, actually, 8fps may sound bad, but perfectly flyable, when smooth that is. If for say Heathrow, I switched off Stansted, London City, & Gatwick, then fps would be higher. I have quiet a long viewing distance set, and details are high, I fly mainly vfr, If I switch to small aircraft, Cessna's etc, then frames obviously increase. For me, complex aircraft, and too much detail are eating the fps, I have just been to lazy to turn anything off lol, but if it was unflyable, I would. Usually I don't use AI, for practice flying, I care more about me flying than AI
  16. You should be pretty okay with that Ray, I run a i7 990X at 4.6, and get pretty much 20fps (locked) and smooth for most of UK, using UK2000 airports, Playsims photoscenery, Earth simulations Treescapes, but yes it does drop to around 10fps around London, that's with London City, Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow going, specially near Heathrow when it drops to 8 near landing, but smoothness is everything, so perfectly landable for instrument or VFR aporach. but yes the ATI's do still dislike clouds, in severe thunderstorms, it will do the same as London does, The good thing is with London and Thunderstorm it is still 8fps at Heathrow as 1 slowdown is GPU, and 1 is CPU lol. But still smooth.
  17. Yesh, I meant more on resolution. I have a 30" Monitor at 2560x1600 running on an ati 6990. Funnily enough if I drop the resolution to 1920x1200 there is very little if any noticeable frame rate improvement. So would summise the CPU is doing it's job (Handling what is around us, as we know FSX is CPU hungry), and the GPU is doing it's job (Handling what it see's & texturing it, not how much is around it). I assume dropping bellow there may see some slight improvement in frame rates, but kind of defeats of choosing a 30" screen really, Great for VFR approaches, no need to play with Lod, still leave it at 4.5 and can line up from a good distance with lights & lay (direction) of the runway.
  18. Make that 2 of us, so it's not just my Connection then
  19. Don't forget the Captainsim C-130. It may not be the newest or have heavy systems, but fun to fly, short landing, Good for short or long haul, Especially if you use radio navigation, There is of course the stock GPS you can use for the flightplan if you don't.
  20. Mostly this will depend on your monitor, Screen Resolution, And how far you want to zoom in, especially on Aircraft External Paints. on a Dell 30" running at 2560 x 1600, I do not see much difference in clouds at 2048 or 4096. Zooming in close on a Hi-Res Aircraft you do notice the difference, The further out you zoom out though, the more LOD comes into play, so you will notice less difference in quality. On a Low-Resolution display, you will notice a big difference if LOD is enabled in the textures, and will get much more blurries when sat in the cockpit, depending on how the textures are set up.
  21. Check the FSX controls settings, I had that with the throttle box when going to 0. It's the reverse switch on 1 of the 3 levers does it, it's assigned to views by default. Change it, and no more problem
