...I'm curious about Vilk's texture (vater.zip). I'd recently come across it and now seem unable to find it again. I used it with morewatr.zip and found that quite quickly. I've searched file name and author here and other sites; can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks for the help...

So they are still available. Good! I will have to try them. For a minute there, I thought they were not available because they had become payware. ;)

I think the reason that Vilk didn't upload them here was because of the Avsim file library requirements.Perhaps in view of the controversy those images might be restored temporarily so that comparisons can be made? Thanks for the reply, Greg.Addendum: Page doesn't display. Others are downloadable on that page, just not that one...

Holger, may I say that the second screenshot is astounding! I assume this is one of your remakes, mesh and shores?

Hi Naji, thanks for the nice comment. You should recognize the area of the second shot: it's Annette Island ;-) In fact, all the shots are from SE Alaska and, yes, it's a project I'm working on (see the recent FSAddon post in the BFU forum). As for the topic of this thread, here's a link to the FlightOne comparison of default vs FSWater: http://www.flight1software.com/showcase/fswater/One additional point I'd like to make is that to me the biggest visual impact with water reflections enabled is the cycling of the bumpmap (OceanHeightField.bmp) that simulates the wave action. There are some significant differences among the replacement files available for free and I'm sure FSWater is different yet again. The point is that this effect cannot be judged by static screenshots; for example, my screenshots were made at the point in the cycle that looks most appealing to me ;-)Cheers, Holger

Great stuff, Holger!Oh yeah, you too, vilk!:-smooch

Me again, just for the sake of completion for those with disposable income ;-)There actually is an alternative payware water textures product available, by Lynn and Bill Lyons himself. It's included with their Golden Hawaii scenery/aircraft package - available for US$12.50 here: http://windrfters.com/GoldenHawaii.htm - and it supposedly improves on their freeware water textures by quite a bit. I don't own it myself (yet) but have read many positive comments along the lines of "the water textures alone are worth the price of admission". Perhaps people who do own it can tell us more???Cheers, Holger

Must have been too much traffic the link to download this does not work anymore. Is there anywhere elese to get these textures?

Link just worked for me :} Thanks for posting have been trying to get them from FSFreeware for days...
