Understanding AI?

There are just too many traffic programs to chose one...is there a comparative review on the web anywhere?

I've downloaded AIFP2, will get that some attention.

Meanwhile I've realised that with airliner traffic turned off the bigger airfields WILL be empty, maybe Birmingham is on the sweet spot in the middle where it gets both...

So turning airliners up to 66% and off to Heathrow and yes, there are a few liners on approach which I get slotted in between but never actually see. Then to London City where ATC clear me for a touch and go on 21 and there is some other chap cleared for the same on runway 3. :-)

London City only has one runway...he gets the go-around and skims overhead as I rollout.

Cheers

Keith

I have MyTrafficX and SimMarket has a comparison of the MTX products - http://secure.simmarket.com/mytraffic-x-professional-5.4-b.phtml. Haven't seen a comparison between the other commercial/freeware products but there are reviews of AI Traffic programs right here on AVSIM - http://forum.avsim.net/index.php?app=ccs&module=pages&section=pages&id=19.

Default AI is injected in about a 120nm radius of your aircraft, not worldwide.

I would like to clarify my comments about AI traffic being deployed worldwide. As I stated in post 15, MyTrafficX deploys in a 150 mile radius depending on slider settings. I ran Process Monitor and started up FSX and set my location to KDCA and all of the worldwide traffic bgl's were loaded such as MyTrafficGlobal, Mytrafficmil, and Mytrafficcommercial. All of the AI aircraft were loaded too. I would assume these traffic bgl's are just loaded and the aircraft are not actually deployed except in a certain radius of your location depending on your AI slider.

Best regards,

Jim

Well yes it has to read the traffic files in order to identify the appropriate traffic it needs to inject. There is no real way around that. Like you say though it will only inject the appropriate (By schedule) traffic for the areas radius. I find it fascinating that FSX (and FS2004) has this capability for a consumer sim. It's got to be using really complex algorithms to do this. It's something we all seem to take for granted.

Thanks

The very complex stuff in FSX is overlooked - agreed, is there an ATC or AI program that does all the work? There's no absolute need to use the .bgls for traffic, an external program can do all the work. The problem with Ai is FSX calling the models into the sim all over the place as you come into range of airports populating. Only airports below you and the departure and destination are needed populating.
