Switching back and forth dx10 to dx9

Featured Replies

Howdy

A few weeks ago I decided to try the new DX10 mod.

Backing up my FSX files and applying the shader 3.2.2, and editing the cfg etc...

As well I backed up my NI dx9 and dx10 settings.

I am very pleased with this mod.

In many ways FSX is a whole new sim for me. Thanks to everyone who've made it possible and those that continue to help the community.

My question is, although I love DX10 I would like to stick with it, there are times when I would like to go back to try some things out in DX9.

Can I just simply change D3D10=1 to D3D10=0 and load up my dx9 Inspector settings and virtually have for the most part a DX9 FSX, without doing a full restore.

Your comments much appreciated

Cheers

Steve

All I do is change D3D10=1 to D3D10=0.

If you backed up your FSX.cfg file for Dx9, you could select that instead but there are

few differences between mine.

MY NI settings work well for both modes and none of the DX10 shader or aircraft lighting

changes make any difference to Dx9.

Yup - there are lots of ways to skin this cat. You can do what ncooper suggests above: If you have lots of differences between the two - then you can copy your DX10 fsx.cfg - (highlight the file, press Ctrl-C then Ctrl-V to paste it into the same folder): It will automatically rename it as "fsx-Copy.cfg".

You can then edit the original fsx.cfg with "D3D10=0", such that it now becomes a DX9 config, then fly it a couple of times, changing it as you wish, then save it as "fsx_dx9_master.cfg".

Do the same thing with that renamed copy - make it "fsx_dx10_master.cfg", so that you now have two master configs and a working fsx.cfg.

You can then copy and rename whichever one you want as "fsx.cfg", overwriting the fsx.cfg that's there.

Lots of great suggestions here but let me throw in my two cents worth.... The Microsoft developers gave us DX10 Preview with SP2/Acceleration and they didn't intend for us to be changing all kinds of settings everytime we jumped back and forth between DX9 and DX10. I personally use the same NI and FSX.cfg settings and it works great but there are many who have tweaked specifically for DX10 and that might be a good idea to have settings for DX9/DX10.

Best regards,

Jim

easiest is to have 2 fsx start up icons, one will be for launching the dx9 version, another for dx10.

copy "fsx.cfg" used for dx9 to "dx10.cfg" and place in fsx root directory. dx10.cfg will be the fsx.cfg dedicated for dx10 (set d3d10=1 in this one).

create a shorcut for fsx.exe in fsx root directory and place on desktop, rename this shortcut "dx10" and change the shortcut property target =

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe" /cfg:dx10

now you'll have 2 shortcut to lauch fsx, one for dx9 (original) and one for dx10.

unfortunately, ni setting will need to be shared for dx9 and dx10.
