February 6, 201313 yr Well, again, the last module to load before crashing was a DirectX dll and the msxml13.dll. Sorry, just no more possible solutions to offer. I still think your FSX settings (a tweak recommended by someone or settings set too high) is killing your system. If you want you can copy your fsx.cfg to fsx.txt then upload it to this forum (look in More Reply Options). Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! February 7, 201313 yr Author Thanks I will do when I get back home. Do you think it is because I am undocking windows?
February 7, 201313 yr Do you think it is because I am undocking windows? Yes. That will do it. Do you mean you are undocking the GPS gauge or some other FSX gauge? I have two monitors and have tried to undock the GPS gauge and move it to my secondary monitor. All goes well until I try to move the undocked window. FSX hangs and I have to ctrl-alt-del to get out or restart my system. If you're doing this on the same monitor though, I don't think you should have any problems but each undocked window requires more system resources. Best regards, Jim yes I undock the FMC and PFD to a 2nd monitor. Just thinking about it the last crash happened when I was using the FMC for a long period of time during the flight. Would reducing the FSX settings stop the crash?
February 7, 201313 yr I have never been able to get the undocking to another computer (in full screen mode) to work. Some others have though and that's how I got the suggestion to try it. In windowed mode, it should work without a problem but then, FSX is an older program and maybe doesn't like that either. I would say now, with certainty, that this is your problem and maybe someone down in the Hardware Video card and monitors section can explain how to resolve. February 7, 201313 yr Author Thanks for all your help and patience I really appreciate it I run FSX in windowed mode on 1 monitor.
February 7, 201313 yr Not every system can run at max settings. I don't think there's a reason to run at max settings as FSX looks great with some of the settings turned down. I like the settings made by FTX/Orbx in their PNW scenery package... LOD - Large Global Texture - Max Mesh Complexity - 100 Mesh Resolution 2M Texture Resolution 7cm Scenery Complexity - Extremely Dense Autogen - Normal Aircraft Traffic 16% Road Vehicles 16% (I think 10% is okay too). Hopefully, running FSX with everything on your primary monitor will work and you'll know what's causing your errors. You might want to check your FSX configuration and make sure there's only two lines for your monitors like mine below: [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580.0] Primary Monitor Mode=2560x1600x32 Anisotropic=1 AntiAlias=1 [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580.1] Secondary Mode=1920x1080x32 You might have other entries in your FSX config that are different resolutions and conflicting. I get conflicting resolutions with my secondary monitor occasionally when it adds two more Display entries (reason unknown) Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! February 7, 201313 yr Author Ive attached the current cfg file I use if you could be so kind as to take a look
February 7, 201313 yr I see PaulJ has already edited and checked your fsx.cfg out. Your fsx.cfg shows 3 display devices. You have three monitors? Above those entries you have two more display devices. Those should remain. I would delete the three display devices at the bottom of the FSX.cfg then save it. Not to worry, as it will not crash your computer or anything like that. If FSX needs it, they will be added back to the config. The most glaring error was the fact you had texture_max_load in the [Graphics] section set to 512. It should be set at 1024 (I changed it). Then, down in the [Display] section you had the entry again but this time it was set to 4096. I disabled it. I think this was the cause of your crashes. An amended version of your FSX.cfg is attached. Just rename to FSX.cfg and move it into your FSX.cfg folder. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! I do have UT2 installed, I disabled the traffic to see if it was causing the crashing but I'll put it back up to 20. I did have the UT2 demo but I guess I can delete the line: "SimObjectPaths.6=SimObjects\UT2 Demo Aircraft" Should the settings in FSX have any bearing on the cfg file? For example do I need to match up the graphics settings with whats in the cgf?
February 8, 201313 yr
Should the settings in FSX have any bearing on the cfg file? For example do I need to match up the graphics settings with whats in the cgf?
Not sure what you mean by this but I think FSX works much better with AA and AF (Anisotropic) turned on in FSX. You can maybe try to enhance it with your display drivers but fsx was developed with having AF/AA enabled and a good to great video card providing the display. I would leave it Application Controlled in the Display Driver settings. You can try some other settings after you get this problem fixed but FSX will work great with just AA/AF enabled in FSX. I was looking at your memory installed and you are showing 9GB. How is that possible? You have to install memory in pairs, like 2GB's, 4GB's, and 6GB's, etc., in each slot. So having 9 GB's is not good. FSX can only see 4GB's on a 64 bit Operating System. The rest of the memory will be used to run your computer.
