FSX having Fatal Errors after upgrade to Win8

Recommended Posts

So I just recently upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7 and did a clean install of FSX. Now I am just getting the dreaded random fatal errors. I have tried adding the UIAutomationCore.dll, running fsx as an administrator, eliminating my add ons etc. Sometimes if I go to settings and then go back to fly now I get one, sometimes when FSX boots i'll get one, and just randomly in flight I may get them. Could anyone provide any insite for me on this thanks. I'll provide a list of addons:

REX Essential+ Overdrive

PMDG NGX/MD11/747

Carenado 172/B200

FS Dream Team KLAS/KLAX/GSX/KJFK/KDFW/KORD/KPHNL/Zurich X

Cloud 9 KMCO

Fly Tampa Kai Tak

Flight Beam KSFO

Mega Scenery So-Cal, Las Vegas, Reno, Hawai'i

Zynertek Night Environment X

Wilco Airbus Evolution

Hardware:

AMD FX8350

Gigabyte Radeon HD7850

Asus M5A99FX Pro

A difficult question to answer.

What I can say is that I have a clean install of Windows 8, FSX and some addons.

Apart from the apparently unavoidable occasional disappearance of my joystick,

I have less problems with FSX than I did under Windows 7.

If you did upgrade Windows, rather than do a clean install, you may have inherited problems from

your previous OS.

I was recommended Ccleaner which is free and effective in tidying up unwanted registry entries.

Most complaints about Windows 8 are based on personal opinion and not facts.

However, the one received wisdom is that upgrades are mostly trouble, whereas

clean installs are mostly not.

Alright I have Ccleaner I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Also I don't know if this would help narrow anything down, but I also consistently get FSX (Not Responding) and then after about 5,10,15 minutes It'll keep going on it's marry way (while flying of course)

I think I have decyphered from your post above that you have installed FSX into C:\program files (86).

If this is the case, I believe that this is causing your problems.

Here is a link to another post, about Fs9 but nevertheless directly relevant

http://forum.avsim.n...d-in-windows-8/

There is differing advice about how to solve the problem but essentially, if FSX is in C:\program files (86),

you will need to either move it, my solution, or change the permissions for it, SteveW's solution, otherwise, Windows 8 will stop it working.

Without going anywhere near the ins and outs, my copy of FSX is on another drive altogether and has never stopped working

with the error report you have posted.

That said, I have also found it necessary to set fsx.exe to run as an administrator and in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

Nick.

I have installed Fsx on a freshly installed new W8 x64, I have numerous issues with playing. I have multiple CTD's and extreme flickering. With my w7 x64 and exactly the same hardware I had no issues whatsoever.

I did some experimenting and found out that as long as I only install SP1 and not Accelaration (or SP2 seperatly) it works fine. Has anyone seen this before?

Well I just installed FSX fresh on a new hard drive, have it running on Win 7 compatibility mode, and the whole 9 seems like I'm getting CTD's worse than before here's my results:

Looking at your results above, I can see two fixes required straight away.

Installing FSUIPC4, Version 4.859 or later by Pete Dowson should prevent the g3d.dll error.

You can download it here

http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

You do not have to purchase and register it for the g3d.dll fix to work.

You should also download this file (uiautomationcore.dll) and put it in your FSX root folder

http://www.search-dl...nload/1744.html

This will stop FSX from looking for the one in Windows\system32 which can cause a CTD.

If you haven't already done so, set fsx.exe to run as an administrator as well as in Windows 7

compatibility mode.

Regards,

Nick

You do not have the proper version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 installed. FSX/Acceleration requires MSV 2005 with SP1 to be installed properly. This is the version you need (6195) - http://support.micro....com/kb/2538242 and it can be downloaded and installed through Windows Update.

In this crash, the FSUIPC4.dll will not help you as it only traps certain addresses. It's a utility that you should have installed anyway.

If upgrading your MSV to the proper version does not help, then you might want to uninstall/reinstall your video card.

I hope you disabled your AVAST Anti-virus program before installing FSX or a video card driver as I have heard of issues with this program. Anti-virus programs are constantly on the lookout for changes in the registry and system files and it could disallow or quarantine a file it considers suspicious. This could mess up your installation if you have it set to really look hard for a virus or the highest setting. You might look in your quarantine folder in AVAST and see if it stopped anything from happening.

I would remove the uiautomationcore.dll from your main fsx directory and place it in a Temp folder. The uiautomationcore.dll does not work for all crashes (as you well know by now) and only works for FSX Menu crashes. So, if you're not getting FSX menu crashes, remove it. I have tried to duplicate the menu crash but can't so I have no need for this dll (as well as many others). It could do more harm than good. Putting in the wrong version will cause problems too. I see the module was loaded from your FSX folder and then again in the Windows/System32/. The uiautomationcore.dll is part of the Microsoft.net package. Certain versions of Microsoft.net is required FSX, to include memory management. You should have Versions 1.1 through 4.5 installed. You can check your versions installed by going to Windows/Microsoft.net/Framework/(then the versions). There's a verification tool that you can use by following the directions at this link - http://blogs.msdn.co...13/8999004.aspx. It should work with Windows 8. FSX needs 1.1 and 2.0. Most FSX addons need 3.5. They are not backward compatible. It is interesting to note that the last module in your first crash was the uiautomationcore.dll so it may not have liked the uiautomationcore.dll placed in your main FSX folder.

The last module to load before FSX quit was ntmarta.dll. This is the Windows NT Multiple Access RouTing Authority (NTMARTA) and it supports the security Win32 API to manage the permissions of various objects, such as files, keys and services. This component provides the core support for security inheritance. You may have a problem with FSX sharing components. I cannot say positively that this is the issue but it definitely merits looking into. One thing you can do is to right click the FSX main folder and select Sharing... and see if it is shared. If not, you'll need to get it shared. Check the sub-folders too.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jim

I wonder if you could post which of the recommendations you needed to apply

and which you had already applied?

Thanks.
