  1. Hi, I'm trying to stabilize my P3D install by finishing up some last installs, therefore I have two questions. I have the x-55 Rhino and I would like to set the Aileron Trim Axis to one of my rotaries, as I have done with my Elevator Trim Axis. However, I'm unable to find this axis in the Prepar3D menu. Second of all, the x-55 has a slider (SBK if I recall correct) which in FSX I could instantly use as my speedbrake wihout any tricks or fancy stuff, however in P3D I cannot get P3D to accept that slider as a Speedbrake. Has anyone had any luck with this? Thanks in advance! Mark
  2. If you actually want to practice gliding forget FSX, it's totally rubish. Condor is by far the place to go, the feeling and dynamics are really accurate. All of the guys on my (now previous) soaring club used this to practice while off season. Next to the core, there are still new sceneries being developped every so many weeks and you can find plenty online matches.
  3. Interestingly enough using hideallinfo=1 doesn't remove the fps counter.. it does remove other annoying info like zooming. Is there any other way to accomplish this?
  4. Could you post a picture of how it looks for you?
  5. Indeed And to answer your question, I'm running recieve only.. and that is going at 27fps right now.
  6. Well that is one way to take things too personal.. I was merely pointing out the fact that we were not going off topic with the subject of pc capabilities considering the high resource demands of vegetation.
  7. I guess I kind of started it, but maybe the single CPU thingy is a bit off topic but my questions aren't all that much off topic. The topic is: vegetation yes or no? Well only an idiot would say no.. because everyone wants it to look better if you can.. However, it comes at a cost.. FPS.. and therefore we are / I am discussing how I or others can do it without killing your FPS..
  8. Luckily we are approaching Dutch fall and winter so I'll be fine haha, I'm currently running @4Ghz with 32 without and 56 with load.. so i'll be alright for a while.
  9. I actually have the Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3 motherboard with the 2500k so I have pretty much all the OC possibilities I want, including individual core clocking. However, I have never read anyone actually saying that it is better to do that instead of balanced OC'ing.. Do you have any experience with it?
  10. Thank you for your reply! I was being a bit dramatic I'm afraid.. the other cores are indeed between 25/30%. Does it matter though that CPU 1 is in a way 'over 100%'? What I mean by that is that instead of the top load being around 99/100% (with a spike), the load is flatout 100% .. which makes me assume that it wants much more. EDIT1: Well I just answered my own question! I overclocked my pc to 4GHz, which has the effect that the CPU count on core 1 never approaches 100%, but sticks around 95% at it tops at most. Which is good, except for the fact that this really means my GPU is bottlenecking me.. (HD 6950).. overclocking GPU here I come!
  11. My system is indeed up to date.. Yesterday I did some extensive testing by putting every single item back to zero and getting a lovely framerate haha. After that I put every slider back to maximum to see what the impact was. The performance hit I got was as follows; - Mesh Textus (1m = 9fps, 2m= 8, 5m = 6 and 10m = 1) - Water textures (lowest setting without reflection was already 11 fps so I turned it off for now) - It was a foresty area so almost no buildings so had no hit from autogen buildings max - However autogen vegetation (extremely dense = 19 fps, very dense = 15 fps) - Objects recieve: interior, exterior, vegetation - Objects cast: interior, exterior, vegetation (with first slider to 10.000 and second as well = 20 fps) So I have HDR turned off, as well iluminating landing lights. Sunflare is on though. Clouds are set at detailed volumentric on medium coverage with 60mi limit. As I told J van E in our other topic, my CPU is cutoff 100% on the first core while the other aren't doing anything.. so I'm going to see what a little overclock does (running at 3.7 now) and my Catalyst Control Centers tells me I'm running at max 99% GPU activity.. so might need to overclock that as well..
  12. I was flying in some heavy forest area (CAP mission), and my fps hit was about 8 fps with extreme dense vegetation.. (which brings it down to 15 on average, which is not doable).
  13. I only heard of Outtera since last week but boy o boy, what a promising engine! Obviously you are currently miles away from a competitive flight engine, but for what I have read your team sure does have a lot of stamina and determination. I will keep a close eye on your development and I hope you make it!
  14. I don't dare to come here without saying yes haha! Jeroen convinced me to buy P3D this weekend so I'm very happy with it! Running at 30 (limited) after the cloud *0.5 fix.
  15. Hi, I recently acquired the x-55 and it works really great, however I do have some minor problems. One of them being rather annoying. I would like to use the speedbrake slider on the x-55 throttle to.... use the speedbrake in game ... who would have thought! In the P3D Axis settings menu I try to slide the Speed Brake Slider (SBL), however P3D seems unable to recognize it as a valid Axis. I tried the exact same thing in FSX and there it is automatically recognized as a valid speedbrake axis. Does anyone else have the same problem, or even better a solution? Thanks in advance! Mark
  16. Awesome post, thanks for your help!
  17. @Glenn_C Haha no I crashed it into the stupid mountainsides around LOWI! I had zero vision, so I could only rely on my instruments.. however, the Maule lacks serious engine power so I couldn't climb high enough to dodge the mountain tops and/or jump above the clouds (base around 8000 ft which was also where most tops end). Won't happen again xD
  18. Please check this thread instead of continuing this thread http://forum.avsim.net/topic/393486-windows-8-joystick-megathread-problem/?view=getnewpost some solutions are; - designate all axes en keys through FSUIPC - Don't alt+tab - if you loose it switch between full screen and windowed couple of times But most of all, revert back to W7 if it persists. However, Lockheed Martin claims that they fixed if for Prepar3D.. (I'm still testing).
  19. I can really agree with what's been said above, I'm still a student but I love my flying! Luckily my girlfriend and soon to be more totally understanding of my feelings for flying and simming!
  20. Great pictures, awesome flight! I can't do long flights anymore because of the W8 bug etc, so pretty jealous! I do have a small hint if you would like to. You can very easily turn off the red warnings for brakes/overspeed/parkingbrake etc in your local cfg file. Just search for the terms and turn them off ! Just my 2cts
  21. Haha how did you find this old topic and decided it was best to use it as a topic to post your question? ^^ Anyway, I would stick to Fs2004 if you want to actually enjoy a smooth flight.. obviously you can always run the trial of fsx and see how that goes for you!
  22. Woohoo check this out! Fixed an issue where joysticks could disconnect mid-flight on Windows 8 for P3D v2.1 http://www.prepar3d.com/news/2014/02/4845/
  23. Hmm that is a weird mess up.. You should always install FSUIPC since it makes the came so much more stable anyway. You can indeed setup different profiles for just about anything you want (heck I even use my saitek pro for ETS2 haha). It needs some getting used to but one you know what you are doing it is extremely easy. One major tip is; don't assign any keys in FSX/P3D etc except for the thrusters axes. Assign the buttons on the joystick to a random key (such as decimal for brake) through the saitek editor program. I can send you my practically finished legacy file for the Saitek pro somewhere this week if you want to. I'm still working on my NGX profile though, since I just recently started flying that one with my joystick. I do have a nearly finished J4100 profile as well. Watch some tutorials on Youtube and mess around a bit, you will soon get the hang of the program (or download a profile and see how they do it .. kind of simple reverse engineering)
  24. Yeah I used his video tutorial in combination with the manuals of the product and I have full and successful start ups every single time, so I am very happy with this product now! I have only had one fire now, that was while in flight and I was pushing the limit of the plane but I didn't realize it since I was alt+tabbed looking up some info on an nearby airport haha. So I had to make an emergency landing on another nearby field (pretty much successful ). Thanks for your word of caution!
