Contrails, but from above

^_^ Here's the full paragraph.

We conclude that the increase of the diurnal temperature range over the United States during the three-day grounding period of 11–14 September 2001 cannot be attributed to the absence of contrails. While missing contrails may have affected the DTR, their impact is probably too small to detect with a statistical significance. The variations in high cloud cover, including contrails and contrail-induced cirrus clouds, contribute weakly to the changes in the diurnal temperature range, which is governed primarily by lower altitude clouds, winds, and humidity.

Partial quoting, when did that ever work? And note the word 'may' again. One has to love the science folks for their language.

To help, they describe that the impact caused by just the contrails can not be separated from the natural variation in cloud coverage. By this, even the US stop of air traffic was under the influence of the normal, 'chaotic', variation the Earth's atmosphere incorporates. Magnitudes above any contrail effects.

Maybe, in a not too distant future, they are able to measure the contrail impact better or find a way to rule out the other factors. However, since you can't fly airplanes with contrails on or off, it's a bit of a task. To stop air traffic and then conclude that just the contrails are missing would be a bit premature. As shown on the examples and numbers from the other post.

I do believe contrails are affecting planet Earth in some way be it a positive or negative. Here's my analogy of global warming:

I see earth like the human body. When the human body gets infected with a virus, the body raises its temperature to kill off the virus. The Earth is doing the same. Humans on planet earth are like a virus. The Earth will slowly rise it's temperature to kill of the virus (us humans). If the virus (us humans) are smart, we'll adapt and change to avoid being killed off.

So do contrails effect global warming? I don't have a clue. One thing I do know is never ever forget your wedding anniversary. Always use your checklist, because that one day you don't follow your checklist, you'll know about it.

Speaking of checklists, have you seen this one? Guy fakes flight control issue and has girlfriend read the unresponsive flight controls checklist.

Drastic. But, in a way.. reasonable. Not to forget the social pressure we are putting on ourselves. But we gotta stick to being open, positive, willing to learn.

Hey, what's the option for that girl in the video? If she said no, he would crash land or what? :O:P

Don't worry I've had to read through many journals when I was researching this topic for a paper. Most were much more in depth than this one you posted that went into radiation levels. The conclusion that was found from many of the articles was that longwave radiation was lower causing a cooling from .5-1 C.
