32-Bit or 64-Bit?

Featured Replies

Is the FSX Acceleration a 32-Bit or is it a 64-Bit program? My D:\ drive where I have the game loaded listed a "Program File" and a "Program File (x86). I understand that the standard "program File" is desinged for 64-Bit programs and the "Program File (x86)" for 32-Bit programs. Or does it matter where the FSX is loaded.

FSX is 32-bit, and it doesn't matter where you put it.

FSX is a 32bit program, I am hoping that P3D will come out with a 64 bit program so that we can use all of our installed memory and end those pesky OOM crashes that seem only to happen on final.

You can put FSX wherever you want to but it is not without problems when you stray away from the standard load address.

Everything looks for FSX at Program Files (x86) and if you move it it will be up to you to correct the address.

My FSX is on it's own drive and not in program files and it runs great.

The consensus is that FSX should not be installed in a Program Files folder to avoid problems with UAC. Installing it C:\FSX sworks with no problems

"Program File" and a "Program File (x86)" have no difference between them. It's just when an installer tries to install to "program file" the os will point it to one or the other based on the application 32/64 bit. And there's nothing special about those folders, just how the ownership and permissions are set by default. If you have Win 7 ultimate I guess you could use local group policy editor and change that, or else muck around in the permissions, but there is a logic to the setup so it's generally best to leave them and just install fsx elsewhere. Note that the idea is to stop malware from trying to install itself or muck around with programs by requiring an installer to use the "trusted installer service" in order to write those folders.
