February 6, 201313 yr Hi! I have recently been having a problem with my FSX, when I install a addon scenery manually they work fine at the first FSX startup, but turns black when starting FSX the second time. Everything that's customized for the addon scenery turns black so for most scenerys that is the runway, buildings and taxiways. (Sorry but I can't add a image!) I have made two fresh FSX installs and it won't solve the problem so I would like some help. :( I got Windows 7 64 bit and FSX with Acceleration installed including the following addons: PMDG JS4100 PMDG 747x PMDG NGX Milviz f-15e Simcheck a300 Cera Sim Bell 222 ORBX s45 EmilvK
February 6, 201313 yr Could be a display driver. Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling your drivers? Putting the sliders all the way to the right will slow down rendering too. You also need to make sure you have HIGHMEMFIX=1 in the Graphics section of your FSX.cfg. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! Best regards, Jim Hello, thanks for giving me some advices, I checked in my FSX.CFG and it was set to HIGHMEMFIX=1 ... Which drivers to you exactly mean ? Thanks EmilvK
February 6, 201313 yr The driver for your GTX 460. Is your GTX460 overclocked by the factory or did you OC it? If not done right that could cause anomalies too. Make sure the highmemfix=1 fix is in the Graphics section too. What you are doing is putting too much stress on your video card and it is having a hard time rendering. There's nothing wrong with the addon scenery. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! February 6, 201313 yr Author The GTX 460 is stock overclock, and the drivers are up-to-date (installed a few days ago) It shows HIGHMEMFIX=1 in the graphics section too, I will try lowering my settings in FSX but I didn't use to have this problem with the same settings so it is really strange to me. February 7, 201313 yr Moderator I had Orbx scenery doing this (EU England), and it went away when I switched to the default region. It might be worth checking that
February 7, 201313 yr Check with various autogen settings. Perhaps the scenery will render properly at higher settings. You could be having a hardware failure too but, if it is only happening with this addon scenery, then it is most likely the scenery. Check the layering in your config. Make sure there is no duplicate type of scenery installed above your addon scenery folder. Check the installation of the scenery too. A lot of people set up a separate scenery folder for their scenery instead of using the addon scenery folder. For instance, if you have scenery for KSTL, you would set up a folder entitled KSTL. Under this folder add a Scenery folder. Place the .bgl files in the Scenery folder then go to the Scenery Library and select Add. Then go to the scenery you want to add. Once selected click a blank spot in the box where all of your directories are displayed and it will add it to the scenery library. February 7, 201313 yr Author Hi again, I tried disabling Nort America region and no luck there. Thanks anyway And Jim I will look at what you are saying, I'm sure it ain't a hardware problem since scenerys like Aerosoft that have a installer works normally. I just don't understand why it works the first time but not the second time.... EmilvK
February 7, 201313 yr I did a lot of Googling and didn't find anything that replicated your issue except several years ago when fsx was first released. How you were able to see the scenery when you first started up FSX and subsequently didn't see it is truly strange. That's why I suggested reinstalling. I mentioned a hardware problem as that could cause this problem but you would surely be able to tell if you had a hardware problem. Whenever scenery doesn't work suddenly, I think the best solution is to try reinstalling it. The highmemfix=1 fix is suppose to fix black textures but it's not doing it for you. NickN in his guide said this fix would not work for everyone and suggested removing it but, in your case, I recommend disabling it and see what happens (highmemfix=0). I also hope you have all the proper MS Visuals installed, especially 2005 w/SP1 and all of the Microsoft.net's from V 1.1 to 4.5. These programs are not backward compatible and they are used by developers to make sure their product installs and works properly. To verify the dotnets, look in your Windows/Microsoft.net/Framework/then the various versions. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! February 8, 201313 yr Author I uninstalled and reinstalled the scenery but it is still black, took away highmemfix=1 and replaced with highmemfix=0 which gave me a little performance increase I think. ^_^ But where should I check if I got the Microsoft visuals installed ? I got Windows 7. EmilvK
February 8, 201313 yr
But where should I check if I got the Microsoft visuals installed ? I got Windows 7.
They are located in the Add/Remove Programs. FSX was developed with MSV2005 and SP1 was suppose to be included in the Acceleration release but didn't make it in time. But you need that one too. Some developers of addons have used 2008 and 2010 to make sure their product is installed properly. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! February 9, 201313 yr Author It seems like I got Microsft Visual C++ 2005 installed but not with SP1, I tried to download Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) But when I install it there isn't coming up a installation screen, just saying like "preparing for install" EmilvK
March 3, 201313 yr It seems like I got Microsft Visual C++ 2005 installed but not with SP1 Here's the link to the latest 2005 package - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347. You need 2008 w/SP1 too and here's the link to the latest for that package - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26368. It's a shame this has not been fixed yet for you. If updating your MSV's doesn't work, then it has to be the way your scenery is installed. Why you can see it when you first open FSX and some of the textures turn black when you close FSX and restart FSX is beyond me. Do you have UTX installed? If so, try disabling, run fsx and see if the problem has disappeared. I have had black textures too but it was only because my display driver settings and fsx settings were set too high (they couldn't render fast enough).
