February 13, 201313 yr Hi everyone, I'm a bit frustrated. I have an Asrock 877 Mb with an i7 3770K. I wanted to use the auto tune utility from Asus, but can't seem to find it. I saw a download somewhere, but never heard of the site. Can someone please give me some guidance where to get this? I am at wits end trying to manually OC my system. Thanks much in advance! Best, Jeff
February 13, 201313 yr It is in a software package called Ai Suite II that comes with some Asus motherboards. It can be downloaded from the Asus website but I wouldn't expect it to work with Asrock motherboards. I don't know if Asrock motherboards have a similar package. February 13, 201313 yr Author Hi Ted, Thanks for that info. I was under the assumption that Asrock was made by Asus. I just don't feel real comfy with OC'ing. I watched this video on newegg TV below showing how this software works and it seemed like a safe bet to get good results. I used the Bios with preset settings to get to my 4.4GHZ, but know that is a crappy way to OC, not to mention, I think it can be much more efficiently achieved with better results. Thanks for your input. Hope it's OK to post the embedded video here? ! Best, Jeff
February 13, 201313 yr I have used Asus Turbo V Evo, and to be honest, it auto overclocked my 3770k way too far. The voltage was excessive, resulting in VERY high temps. To be honest, If you are at 4.4 with the 3770k you won’t be able to get much higher without de-lidding. I’m at 4.5. 4.6 is my max, because I haven’t de-lidded. So if you aren’t prepared to remove the IHS from your CPU, and replace the rubbish TIM Intel used, you should be satisfied with what you have.
February 13, 201313 yr Hi, Jeff. From reading I don´t know what is worse, preset OC profiles or desktop OC, grossly overvolted or unstable. AI Suite OC I wouldn´t even recommend for an Asus board. And once installed it´s difficult to get rid of, even after it´s uninstalled it can mess with your BIOS, unless you use a special tool to remove it completely. If you cool your cpu properly you can get away with higher OCs without delidding, 4.8 can be reached, but we´re looking at water cooling then, but that has been made a lot easier these days, by out-of-the-box water coolers. And ambient temperatures also come into play, when doing high overclocks. There´s no reason to be uncomfy with manual OC if you study up a little on the subject, and your BIOS should have a max temperature setting that you can adjust to your liking, it´ll throttle the OC to protect your cpu. A typical value would be 90 degrees C, your CPU could spike to that temp. while stress testing, and of course isn´t recommended 24/7 temperature. February 14, 201313 yr Author Thanks guys, much appreciated. I was looking at options because my entire computer had rebooted itself while at Latin VFR's KSAN after loading up the Carenado C340 the other day. Tried it again, and no problems.. Weird. I immediately thought something is going on with my OC, even though I'm using standard settings in the Bios to OC, not very efficient and reliable. I'll keep an eye on things, but will most likely stay where I'm at and be happy. Thanks again. Best, Jeff
February 14, 201313 yr I've always been leery of the Auto clockers. Just paranoid I guess and their probably fine, I don't trust software that may change when rebooting or upgrading etc. We all know how finicky/buggy software can be so I far more trust a bios (EEPROM) setting to remain constant. I would believe there are many running ASROCK MB that could help with OCing the BIOS. Its not so much ASUS makes the MB but what bios their using? They use American Megetrends Inc? AMI Bios Utility
February 14, 201313 yr Author Im my office now, so can't type with my work load today........I'll have to check the voltage when I get home later. I am using a setting in the bios that applies extra voltage to the cpu. Not sure which setting it is off hand, but it made my rig much more stable after bumping it up a month or so ago. i will look at that and then post here. Thanks again for all of your input. Best, Jeff
February 14, 201313 yr Asus Turbo V Evo, the latest version of what you called "auto tune" does NOT save your OC settings. Each and every time you want to overclock, you have to go into it and set the profile. And as I said, it way overclocked my PC, to dangerous levels.
