March 6, 201313 yr Hello! The other day flying in IVAO a Ferry flight I set the aircraft for cero kg cargo. I could not program the FMC because that means Out of CG% MAC in ZFW, ToW and LW. The flight was short (350nm) and I set 20,000 kg of Fuel. Is there any way to do it emptly and with that fuel? I had to add dummy cargo to let me introduce the values in the FMC. Javier Rollon. March 6, 201313 yr That is very normal. You have to remember that the MD11 got a engine in the back and also, like om most McDonnell Douglas aircrafts the wing is also further back than on other types. You will need to use some ballast of some kind. On the MD80 if its light you will put some sandbags in the forward compartment. Best regards Peter Lund Best regards Peter Lund
March 6, 201313 yr Commercial Member Is there any way to do it emptly and with that fuel? Ever notice the BALLAST entry in the INIT page? That's to tell the plane "yeah, it's fuel, but it's being used to keep you in balance, so don't use it in usable fuel calcs." I believe that the page used to fuel the plane will automatically accommodate your fuel+ballast entry, but I haven't flown it in so long, my memory is hazy. Kyle Rodgers
March 8, 201313 yr Maybe what was insinuated but not stated was add fuel to bring you into a good CG. Add enough fuel that when you reach your destination you will still be in that green zone. You can use the load manager to help. In the load manager, empty the jet of passengers and cargo, add fuel until your the center of gravity enters the green zone. Then add enough fuel for your flight and a 1 hour reserve. Keep in mind however, this way of doing things limits your range, so no long distance ferry flights. If you want to do a long distance flight, you may have no choice but to add some cargo. Branton Turner
