March 7, 201313 yr even though I don't have a very powerful computer, I bit the bullet and purchased NGX, and I love it! The best part about it is that it just feels real. Can't wait to get a better computer to really unleash the power of this product. However I do have a question. And yes I have searched for the answer and looked in the manuals, I'm just constantly busy, so I figure I'd ask here. I I am trying to do a flight out of John Wayne Airport in So Cal, to DFW, and everytime I select the cut back thrust option for the quiet climb procedure, the fmc says it can't do it. What conditions have to be met in order for the cut back to be operational? ~William Genovese~
March 7, 201313 yr the fmc says it can't do it. To properly identify and resolve the issue, it would help immensely if you were to describe: 1. what exactly it is you're doing (i.e. which parameters and options you are trying to enter on which FMC page, starting from scratch), and 2. what exactly the error message is you're receiving from the FMC. Somehow I doubt it's "I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."
March 7, 201313 yr Author I am doing a flap 15 departure with the 27k bump for takeoff. Everything is programmed just like a run-of-the-mill flight. Weights, routes, thrust settings. When I select the cutback, it says unable cutback. Not at my computer now, so I can't describe everything ~William Genovese~

March 7, 201313 yr Isn't John Wayne one of those quiet airports where you have to max climb to stay within the required limits. If so then maybe the onboard computer is trying to tell you something. R
March 7, 201313 yr It looks like you may be doing an American Airlines flight. The cutback does work with the 27K bump in the real plane. I haven't tried it in the sim. Of course if you are doing an AA flight to match real world ops you don't do the cutback. From what I have researched AA 737s are the only ones that fly out of SNA that don't have to do it. All the other types in our fleet that fly out of there do (S80 and 757) and all other 737 operators I've talked to do. I don't know why but our 737 are not required to do it. They had a poster in or ops that showed the noise difference at the various microphones. The first two were a bit louder but for the rest it was quieter without doing the cutback. We are also approved to do 26K takeoffs (but no one does) and as of year or so ago we have flaps 25 takeoff data so we can do that too. Tom Landry

I did some research and I did see that the cut back is not required for the -800 of AA, but I am still wanting to try it nonetheless. If my girlfriend ever gets off of the computer, I will give it another try. I was just wondering if there were any prerequisites that need to be met before the cut back option is available ~William Genovese~
