Featured Replies

Hi, my question is, im wanting to buy the PMDG 737NGX soon and im not sure if my computer is fast enough for it.

Computer Specs:

HP pavilon dv6

CPU 2.40GHz

Intel Core i3

6GB RAM

windows 7 64 bit

2.4gHz is too slow.

A 2.4 GHz Core i3 with Intel HD graphics? Ouch. Unless you're a big fan of 1 fps slide shows, I wouldn't recommend it.

NOOOOO! That sucks man. What about upgrading my CPU? Whats the minimum requirements?

Best Performance

OS: Windows 7 64-bit

what about my Intel HD graphics card, will it still work ok? And what about a 2.80 dual core processor, would it work?

Intel HD Graphics, are basically integrated graphics which honestly don't work the best.

I run a dual-core 2.3ghZ computer with only 2GB RAM and I stay locked at 20FPS with all sliders 3/4 of the way to the right, so it looks nice. So, if you can get an actual video/graphics card, which mine honestly isn't great, you should be fine if you ask me.

cool man! when u say 2GB RAM u r talking about graphics memory or main memory?

Anything below 3.7ghz at the Minimum you will have a very bad time, and that is at Default Airports, Let alone Payware add ons. You can't use an ordinary computer for this add on.

i7 3770K OC @ 4.4ghz, Asus Z77 Motherboard,

Windows 7 Premium,

16G DDR3 Ram,

Corsair H 80 Water Cooling

Ok, let's not go that far, NGX (together with other addons) can work just fine with i5-650. Ok, it's not super-smooth but it's flyable.

as u can tell I am not a computer geek. I think I can buy one someware bettwen a 2.5 and a 2.7 duel core prossesor, I want it holding 15 FPS at the minimum, will it meet that goal?

If you want 2 core processor, I strongly suggest top end C2D E8600 @ 3.33ghz, or some old i5-650 or 660. In my experience you need at least 3.2ghz per core.

Its very difficult to predict exact fps for any given set-up. With that said, 15-20 fps is generally considered to be the lowest framerate that is "flyable" . It all comes down to your expectations of the sim. It becomes a slippery slope though as most people, myself included, see their expectations rise as they add a quality payware aircraft to Fsx like any of PMDG's offerings. My PC specs are posted. I average over 30 FPS in almost every situation. My FPS will drop into the low 20's when flying into a very busy airport like KJFK or EGLL  with add on scenery and a complex payware aircaft like the PMDG NGX. I don't have my settings maxed out and I've employed a myriad of config file tweaks to get this performance. Compromises have to be made with Fsx settings on PC's screaming at over 5 Ghz. Having built 4 Fsx dedicated rigs I would say that your specs are woefully inadequate. I never set out to build computers, but that darn flight sim addiction of mine forced me into it LOL! The main consideration for hardware when it comes to Fsx is CPU clock speed. Fsx is almost unique in terms of its requirements. Its extremely CPU bound and needs raw clock speed and lots of it. Most serious Fsx simmers overclock their CPU's. An Intel I 5 CPU like the 2500K is probably the minimum I would suggest for your circumstance.

one last question, I how blurry will it look with my Intel HD Graphics? I would love to upgrade my graphics card to one from nividia but not going to happen anytime soon. will everything be readyble, will I still be able to see the cool reflections on the screens?

Computer Specs:

HP pavilon dv6

CPU 2.40GHz

Intel Core i3

Intel HD Graphics

6GB RAM

windows 7 64 bit OS

Your specs are UNDER or very close to the Minimum, most likely you won't see very high FPS, unless you are wise with your settings and addons.
