So I have a Asus 990FX motherboard with a AMD phenom II 1100T 3.3ghz processor, a zelman 92mm cooler fan, 12gb ram and a 1gb ATI 7750 graphics card, running windows 7 64 bit OS.  I run my cars, boat/ships at 20 percent and aviation at 20%.  Draw cloud 60m.  I use REX Essentials Plus.  I have PMDG 747,737, A2A B17 with accusim, VRS superbug/tacpack, carenado F33 Bonanza, and Real air turbine duke.  I also use My Traffic X 5.4b edition.  I have the Highmemfix already.  I don't know why I keep freezing.  I also just started getting a OOM error.  Any suggestions?  I don't know where to go from here.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled fsx numerous times hoping the problem would no longer exist.  I have tried the UIAutomation.dll trick and still have the same issues.  Very frustrating which obviously I am not the only one with this issue.  I have looked at the CTD forums as well.  I have the internet up for REX to update weather so I can't turn off the internet security or anti virus protection to protect the computer.  I have Game Booster 3 to try and eliminate uneeded processes while running fsx. I have FSX gold edition with Acceleration so I shouldn't need to download SP 2 since it comes with the software.  Sometimes it will freeze up and CTD within 5 minutes, sometimes immediately and other times could be hours.  Quite frustrating.  Thanks.  Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

My apologies, I have the 5770 not teh 7750 graphics card by ATI

Sorry to hear you are having problems. You should download and run AppCrashView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html and copy and paste the results of your latest CTD here. This program provides a bit more information as it interprets Microsoft crash reports (.wer). OOM's on a 64 bit version of Windows 7 are rare but definitely happen. Usually means settings are too high or your memory is not properly configured in the BIOS or there is a problem with the overclock settings or a combination of the above. Some computer experts here at AVSIM have received OOM's when they set their LOD_Radius=(anything above the default which is 4.5) in the FSX.cfg. Just that one setting sets off an OOM on a Windows 7, 64 bit computer system! It's good that you do have a 64 bit system as it provides better memory management for your computer.

The uiautomationcore.dll (a certain Vista version) placed in your main FSX folder only fixes one problem - FSX menu crashes. Personally I have never experienced this problem so have never had the need to put this file in my main fsx folder. I have tried really hard to make the error happen but it won't happen on my system. So I think those people who have this problem with FSX menu crashes are actually experiencing high FSX/display driver setts, a high overclock with the wrong settings, and/or wrong memory configurations in the BIOS.

I had freezes as you discussed above and they were caused by my commercial weather program - AS2012. Nothing wrong with AS2012 programming but I set many of the settings inside that program very high as I was looking for the best eye-candy I could find. Well, I found it but it never lasted long during a flight. I have since brought the settings in AS2012 down to the default and have set some of my FSX.cfg settings higher. For instance, I have Texture_Max_Load=4096 (for high definition) instead of letting AS2012 render textures at that level. You have the REX program which is very similar to AS2012 with graphics and weather so you need to return those settings to the default. I never startup AS2012 and load real weather within that program. That will cause my FSX to freeze too. I simply use the default weather program within FSX (which is really AS2012 as once you install AS2012, it takes over your default weather program). REX may do the same. In any case, if I use the default weather program, I'll get HD clouds and my system will not freeze. If I use AS2012 instead, my FSX will almost freeze up every time. The only way I can continue the flight is to go to the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and shutdown AS2012. Once I get back to FSX (which is sometimes very difficult as there is a bug in FSX that doesn't allow the sim to open up when you click on the FSX Icon) the flight continues without any problems. So I think I can either setup AS2012 for the max eye-candy and turn down my FSX settings drastically or turn off the eye-candy in AS2012 and turn them up in my FSX.cfg. I just cannot do both without FSX freezing up.

For your FSX.cfg and display driver settings, you should look at the AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide pinned at the top of the FSX Forum (and some other forums too).

FSX is more dependent on the CPU than your GPU. In FS9 and earlier versions of FS, it was the opposite. So the more CPU power you have, the better FSX will run. Of course it's nice to have a good GPU too.

One last thing you might consider is to take a look at a driver updater that will scan your computer and tell you whether all of your drivers are up-to-date (including the BIOS). I use a program called Driver Scanner - http://www.uniblue.com/ which is freeware to scan your system to check for outdated drivers. If you want to fix any outdated drivers it finds, you can purchase a license or, if you are Internet savvy, you can go to the appropriate websites and download the drivers and install them yourself. I purchased the program as I don't have the time to go searching all the time for the updated drivers. Just an outdated USB port can cause problems with anything plugged into the USB port (like mouse, keyboard, throttles). It will also update your system bus which controls how things are managed on your MB to get processes completed at the fastest and most efficient means.

In regards to your video card and the update you provided in the post above, you state you have an ATI 5770 instead of the 7750 but your profile indicates you have the AMD 6850 Sapphire. Just wanted to bring that to your attention.

Hang in there. Hopefully we will find a solution.

Best regards,

Jim

Thank you for such a prompt response.  I wish I was home right now to work on my computer.  I will try both of those software links you posted.  I haven't dare tried to overclock my computer yet.  I am too afraid of melting or causing damage to the board.  I keep the LOD_Radius at 4.5.  I tried putting in the settings from the hardware guide.  The Bufferpool=1, although that information was still confusing.  The Reject threshold.  I copy and pasted into my fsx.cfg file.  I seem to as well get the menu crash.  It doesn't always occur at a certain amount of clicks.  I try and use the Alt+Enter to change window modes instead of clicking the mouse but that only limits a little.  I still use it to click through my views other than the spot, tower,vc options.  I will also look into the REX settings.  I know I have the Clouds set to 4096 instead of 2048.  I as well would like to fly with the "eye candy."  It seems when you pay that much for the software you would want to use it to make the most realistic weather.  I will see what I can do though.  I believe I asked the administrators about the if I don't run REX do the weather in FSX still use REX clouds and he said no.  I need to find a way around REX.  It is nice to be able to fly real weather flights.  As for the video card, you are correct.  I had the 5770 previously on my old rig.  Hopefully I can figure a way to fly a full flight without the freezing.

I haven't dare tried to overclock my computer yet.

Your profile indicates your CPU is 3.3GHz and overclocked to 3.7GHz.  I suspect you only turned on turbo mode?

The Bufferpool=1, although that information was still confusing. The Reject threshold.

These settings are not for everyone and I would be very careful placing them into your fsx.cfg w/o knowing exactly what they will do.  I personally have left that setting out of my config.

know I have the Clouds set to 4096 instead of 2048. I as well would like to fly with the "eye candy."

I think you will be okay if you leave your FSX.cfg settings to the default and then you turn on the eye-candy in REX.  Turning eye-candy on in both places I think creates the problem.  At least it does in AS2012.  AS2012 explicitly states the program takes over the default weather program for as long as AS2012 is installed.  I'm surprised REX doesn't state that too.

Good luck.

Best regards,

Jim

It is 3.3.  I haven't messed with the BIOS at all.  The turbo 3.7 is what the box said.  I have just pretty much left the CPU the way it came.  Too afraid to mess up the board.  Took me a long time to get my wife to even let me buy the needed hardware.  Not going to jeopardize the computer.  I will take out the bufferpool.

SimConnect is not properly installed. You have Acceleration installed but the FSX SP2 version appears as the last module before the crash occurred. Reinstall SimConnect.

Doesn't that mean that it recognized simconnect?  I will try and do a reinstall tonight.  Any version in specific to download?

Dunno.  Just because it was recognized or loaded does not mean it did not cause fsx to hang.  A module has to be loaded first to cause a problem.  There are several versions of SimConnect installed on your computer (if you have Acceleration installed).  A FSX program might have been looking for a certain version and could not find it.  One version is for FSX RTM (the basic version) - Version 10.0.60905.0, another is FSX SP1 - 10.0.61355.0, another is FSX SP2 and Acceleration - 10.0.61259.0, and one is FSX Acceleration - 10.0.61637.0.  I have FSX Acceleration installed (the same as you have) and I do not have the FSX SP2 version installed, Version 10.0.61242.0 or 10.0.61259.0.  It might be that you had FSX SP2 installed and you installed Acceleration on top of it.  You cannot do that.  SP2 must be removed before you install Acceleration.

It's my understanding as a non-programmer/developer that Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 and/or 2008 is programmed by an addon developer to look for a certain version of SimConnect.  If it is not there or where it is suppose to be it will hang or crash.  If you installed Acceleration over SP2, then it makes sense why you had FSX hang.  If you did not, then SimConnect was not properly installed.  A lot of people are having issues properly installing SimConnect, including me.  I finally got mine properly installed but to do it properly, you have to completely uninstall Simconnect and start all over with installing SP1, SP1a, and then Acceleration (or SP2 if you have SP2 installed instead of Acceleration).  There's a guide at FS Developers.com - http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page.  Click on SimConnect then on the next page look down and click on SimConnect troubleshooting/installation (sorry they won't allow me to directly link you there).  You may have to go through this procedure several times before it works properly (do not know why) or it may work correctly the first time.

BTW, you do have MSV 2005 and 2008 properly installed.  That's a major plus.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jim

Okay thank you for the link.  I will look at it tonight after work.  I have always installed FSX Gold edition and then Acceleration.  Doesn't SP2 come with acceleration?  I have only installed the regular 2 discs of FSX and then acceleration to follow but it didn't ask me to activate acceleration like it did for FSX.

Josh Scholl

Doesn't SP2 come with acceleration?

No.  It is either/or.  SP2 was coded so users couldn't use the extra stuff that came with Acceleration as SP2 is a free upgrade and Acceleration cost an additional $20.00.

Jim

Probably a stupid question but how would I find where SP2 is located in my computer to delete it?  I would think in the control panel but I have never seen anything besides just "Microsoft Flight Simulator" in the programs section.  Sounds like I need to find that and delete it and see if that fixes since I have acceleration installed I should need SP2 correct?

Josh Scholl

It would not show up in the Add/Remove program folder.  You would have to uninstall Acceleration and that would leave just FSX in your Add/Remove programs.  Again, do not install SP2.  The FSX Gold Edition contains everything you need - FSX and Acceleration.  Nothing else has to be installed.  Once the Gold Edition is installed, do not install Acceleration on top of that as it is already installed.  Once all of that is installed, then you need to install the FSX SDK and SimConnect via the link I provided above.

Best regards,

Jim
