April 4, 201313 yr Question 2 of 2. XPX: Started using it yesterday. In the past, I haven't messed around with the GPS much. Now that I fly a few airplanes equipped with 430s and 530s, I started clicking around... not much happening there. Am I missing something or are most of the buttons cosmetic? So.... I use the Reality XP stuff on the FSX side, but would like to move away from them if possible with X-plane as it doesn't seem like they're developing any more. (Plus, I already bought all their stuff...) I'd likely change my mind if I could use a subscription to keep the databases current. Basically: I would like a fully (or mostly) functioning 530/430 or comparable GPS, preferably that can be updated. That said, I know SimAvio has some stuff but I don't have any experience with it. I also don't know what else may exist... Any help appreciated- thanks, Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
April 4, 201313 yr Hi Andrew, One of the real weaknesses of X-Plane. Even payware developers place this useless GPS in their aircraft. However, there is an alternative, the EAD KLN 90B and it can be downloaded here
April 4, 201313 yr Author Thanks Michel... Ouch. Thanks for the lead on the 90B. I'll keep looking, maybe end up with simavio or something. H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
April 4, 201313 yr The KLN 90B simulates an old real world unit, but it's a deep simulation and works very well once you've set it up. It's updatable with Navigraph data. And it's free.
April 4, 201313 yr I believe that old KLN 90B is 32-bit only, so be mindful of that... It's SASL based, and SASL is now 64 bits. Excellent piece of software.
