Recommend settings for my PC

I have always most traveled in Denmark.

And in general the airports are fairly small.

THAT means my sliders are more right than left, when we talk about traffic.

Flying to Hamburg in the PMDG 737, and on arrival FPS drops to unacceptable low. Around 9-15.

So, i was wondering what setting other i7 users apply for Airliner and GA traffic?

In Denmark its absolutely possible to fly with traffic higher than 75% on both types.

I have my aircraft traffic at below 40%, with an addon, that is. Car and boat traffic are even below 20%, as that doesn't usually mean too much to me, ti's just nice to see some boats along the shorelines and cars driving tdown the highways beside the airport, but that's all I want.

Just as a sidenote: There are some other settings, that may have more influence on performance, such as scenery settings, and especially aircraft shadows and light bloom. Those two are real frame eaters on my computer, so I leave them off.

From my experience it's not so easy to give a helpful advice, it's mostly a matter of trying some settings, and find a good compromise.

You forgot one of the most important sliders:

Autogen. There is no need to have the autogen above normal, really. Autogen, huge frame killer, and OOM causer.

You're right, that one would probably have been worth mentioning, I just counted it as one of the scenery settings. But it can be quite harmful to the FPS.

Autogen is Very dense(airport) & dense.

I run in DX9 with bloom of.

Huge diffence when you arrive at a big city/airport.

I think my settings are too high then.

And i forgot.

Cars are 33% ships/ferry 100% and boats 75%

Does traffic on ground, cars and ships eat much FPS?

Absolutely

I should set up a scenario in dense area.

try different settings, and see what eats most.

I think many have different settings because of the area they fly in.

And thats why i got problems when arriving in a larger airport near a fairly large city.

UTX probably eats a lot concerning cars.

Most likely. I for one have one setting I found good for airliner flying, which does not require too high mesh settings for example, and I can cut back on some other things, too, which gives me space for a little more airliner traffic and especially for some other modules that need to be loaded, for example by the PMDG MD-11.

Then I have a configuration for GA flying (set to give good performance in ORBX regions), which gives more scenery details, but reduces AI traffic to very low settings, especially airliners, because I don't care for planes at FL300+ when I'm at maybe 3000ft AGL.

Right now I'm also considering a new set for military flying, wher I would reduce all scenery related settings to an absolut minimum, because at high speeds textures usually becomes blurry anyways, and when you're going at M1.5, you don't really take notice of outside details anyways.

I've found this advice to be most useful, since each set up is different (i.e. I have no FPS decrease with vehicle/ship traffic, whereas many others do).

Have you tried to run FSX on your default settings (the settings applied when FSX was first loaded on your computer)?   I know that the sim will look degraded, but at least that's a starting point to re-setting the sliders one by one.   Then there is compromise (a couple of e.g.s):  I've removed all autogen buildings, but have max. trees, since this looks more realistic in an airport environment than having buildings appear in weird places.   My water effects is set on Low 2, rather than my default Max 2 since it appears more accurate.

If your sim runs acceptably on your default settings (flying PMDG 737 into Hamburg), then increase/decrease settings that are a 'must have'.  The other settings can be progressively increased until you notice a display/FPS issue.

I have and i7 system and here are some random thoughts:

I have my traffic X

Commercial Traffic: 30%

GA Traffic: 10%

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cars: 0~5 % (really does not add a lot imo to justify the FPS)

Ships and ferries: 0 %

L. Boats: Same as above

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenery Complexity: Very Dense (what I use)

Autogen Density: Dense

Airline vehicle density: minimum (not really something I care about)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Try running in window mode which for some seems to help with the FPS and run smoother.  Use the following to help hide the border and also set your task-bar to autohide to help from killing the immersion.

Autohotkey: www.autohotkey.com

The script can be downloaded here to hide border:http://library.avsim...sxutil&Cookie=1

One thing about FSX is it is a game of balances... keep those areas high that you want and reduce the others.  Also my settings change based on the type of flights I am going to do.

Does traffic on ground, cars and ships eat much FPS?

I have tested many times, and even in the most populated areas (NY or Seattle) I didn't find ships to have any effect on framerates.

Cars, OTOH, are a real fps killer. Turned them off forever!!

Cars have NO difference from boats, or ferries, it's all about how MANY there are at any certain time. There are likely to have very fewer boats, than cars at any certain place.

And, I run Ai cars at 17%, and notice no frame difference, because every install is different.

I think my settings are too high then.

Yes, way to high.

Autogen Density: Dense

As I've said before:

That's the point!  VERY fewer boats.

Cars, I don't mind but boats, I like 'em.. and they are few..

Ok, thanks for feedback.

Nice to know it's not my setup that is screwed, just the simulator that is demanding.

I would support setting cars to zero - they hit fps way harder than a few boats do.
