Subject: QNH conflict with VATSIM I have a problem the QNH downloaded from AS2012 and that given me by VATSIM when flying online. I put my aircraft at ESSA. Then I checked the QNH reading from NOAA (used I believe by VATSIM as reference). It was 1009. I started AS2012 and found their reading was 1016. This value was automatically downloaded to my aircraft and could be seen on the altimeter after pressing B. In other words, the value given me by ATC is not going to match my reference when flying under AS2012. This could cause serious problems on an approach under IFR conditions since ATC and my aircraft are going to have different interpretations of the runway elevation. In any case there should not be such a difference between the NOAA(VATSIM) and AS2012 values for QNH. I have checked this several times and at different airports, always with the same result. I have started AS2012 first, checked the weather option to download weather from VATSIM, imported a flightplan and finally started FSX from AS2012. The result is always the same, FSX is started with the correct AS2012 value for QNH, however this does not match the NOAA value used by VATSIM. Explanitory help much appreciated. April 17, 201313 yr Commercial Member Everyone on Vatsim uses different weather program's (some people don't use any). Just set your QNH to what ever your weather program says, that's the main thing. I should add I have never seen your issue with AS2012 or previous versions. Rob Prest
April 17, 201313 yr Turn the VATSIM weather option On in AS and make sure your flightplan is processed in AS. Then the same weather feed will be used for the departing and destination airports.
April 17, 201313 yr VATSIM weather from Squawkbox or FS INN is rubbish, it's about 2 hours behind reality and doesn't include winds aloft! Having said that, you shouldn't be seeing that much of a difference in QNH between VATSIM, FSX default, Opus, AS or REX, 9 millibars is rather a lot. ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.
April 18, 201313 yr Weather in the VATSIM client software should always be Off, when using a 3rd party weather program. That option is there for those that do not use a 3rd party program.
April 18, 201313 yr Author Thanks for all the input. "Just press B", you say, however, my problem is that ATC is giving me another reference from that which matches my runway elevation. So you mean I should ignore that. Its OK when starting but more difficult when landing due to the fact that going from standard QNH to ground QNH which requires the true value to get the right altitude and the right readouts from the FO on final. I've never had this problem before and have openned a ticket with HIFI suspecting that my problem may be due to AS2012 SP2 which I recently installed. JSMcW
April 23, 201313 yr Commercial Member This was due to using sim time instead of real time? Regards, Dave Opper HiFi Support Manager
