April 23, 201313 yr Well, like I say, I ain't really complaining using the HGS 4000.. But it is interesting jibber jabber about the different HGS models.. On a pseudo Southwest buoy note.. Flew my first over semi big water Southwest flight the other AM.. Orlando to San Juan using N8306H. "#6" I dunno know if that's the actual plane used, but it's my usual go to plane for 800 flights.. April 23, 201313 yr Looks like a HUD that doesnt know where it is.. I.E the IRS's arnt aligned...mabe? Actually the stuff you see on the hud is projected onto the glass so if you are not sitting properly in your seat it will look strange. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
April 24, 201313 yr This is ridiculous topic, same as "we want 777-200ER" one .The fact is NGX HUD is newer, better, and can do all of the things as 2300 can, and even more. It's like asking your car dealer why there is no audio cassette player option for brand new BMW. Dang, now I want a cassette player. Btw, SWA never had hgs in the -200, or an fms for that mater. The autopilot was very crude, as I recall it didn't have an alt capture. You just used cws to push it over than engaged alt hold.
April 24, 201313 yr I used to run that "tin mouse" or whatever they called it, 737-200 in a past life.. The 200 cockpit was very much like a 727 with two engines. I flew in a SWA 200 once.. LIT to DAL to HOU.. Those old 200's were pretty primitive compared to an NG. Heck, a 300/500 is starting to feel a bit dated now. I remember when they were the latest and greatest.. Mark Keith

LIT to DAL to HOU.. Those old 200's were pretty primitive compared to an NG. Heck, a 300/500 is starting to feel a bit dated now. I remember when they were the latest and greatest.. I believe (if my 737 history is correct) the 73 was a short version of the 707 made to opperate autonomously on domestic short haul flights. Never intended for long hauls or transCons. They actually put a seat in the cockpit for an f/e, which is why there are two jumpseats up there but that second seat is itself a very effective torture device. A bit dated is an understatement, at my airline we tend to try and avoid them like the plague. The ng's are major jump in technology. Now the thing with the 200's were that they were very reliable, simple to opperate and comfortable to the passangers but over the years maintaince went up and fuel cost kept climbing so the airlines needed better engins and a bigger cabin to carry paying customers.
