Rudder is a must?

Featured Replies

this might be dumb question but is rudder pedals a must or rudder can be done via auto-rudder option, some of us still fly from small office space with no pedals or twist joystick, but noticed last night that take off or landing in impossible without any type of rudder input, just curious if there is a switch or config that would allow the auto rudder option?

this sim works outside of FSX controls and has to be assigned separately. Most joysticks have a twist function for correcting yaw.

Yeah, but he just wrote that he doesn't have a "twist joystick."

The aircraft is better operated with the "auto-rudder" option disabled.  Rudder functionalityis most needed for the takeoff roll (maintaining the center line) and crosswind landings.  At best you may have to learn the art of using the keyboard (assign 3 keys of your choise if you do not like the default FSX keys).

It's easier if you look at the second display from the left, there's a visual representation of your current rudder position, so if you use your keyboard to control it, keep an eye on it.

Not a dumb question! I'm not really in to props, but I am really considering buying this. I don't own pedals either, so was planning on posting the same query, but you beat me to it. ^_^

Thanks all for replies, although some went into super details but I end up buying the pedals as it seems no way around it if you want to fly this bird, which I love, impressed with it and even thinking of starting home cockpit for this one when the pro/trainer version out as it sounds like they will support home cockpit builds.
