April 25, 201313 yr I've been using DX10 for a while now, and generally all is good, but I've come across an odd issue with some 3d grass. The airport is St Marys in the Isles of Scilly, by Earth Simulations. The grass by the runway has a fairly common problem as shown in the first pic. Strangely, if I pan round slightly further the grass appears correctly Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, and can anything be done to fix it? Dave Garwood.
April 27, 201313 yr It looks like you have some file coruptoion in this scenery. re-install it and your problem should be correted. I had this simular issue at one time and that is what i had to do to correct it. Les H :hi: lh

I came across this issue myself a few months ago and it was the main reason I abandoned DX10. I did re-install the scenery but it made no difference. I tried to raise the issue with Earth Simulations sent them similar pictures but got no response. If you could find a solution to this I might be tempted to have another look at DX10. Kelvin
April 27, 201313 yr Author As an experiment, I used Instant Scenery to place some of the offending grass at different airport & reloaded the sim. The grass displayed perfectly there, so I'm assuming the file is OK. Looks like there's something else causing a conflict. I'm going to try selectively disabling some bgls to see if I can track it down. Dave Garwood.
April 27, 201313 yr You are on the right track in finding the issue with the grass. I run FSX totally in DX10 and nothing else. After all of my computer upgrades and over clocking has made a world of difference. I might note that I have funny things go on in DX10 and I found that when I went into the scenery library and started shutting down one scenery at a time I found the one that was giving me the issue. The one that was giving me the headach was FSDREAMTEAM (KLAX) and Mega Scenry SoCal by PC AVIATOR. Now here is the kicker as I put it, ok? When I uninstalled SoCal the issue went away. I then installed some other FSX software and then later re-installed SoCal and the issue went away. So somewhere in the installation of the software a file got messed up and through the process everything worked it's way out. I am 69 and have been with the PC ever sence in the 80's and some strange things has happened in that time that no one can or could explain other than a programer. I have also found if you have downloaded and installed a new video card driver, sometimes the new driver has messed things up. If this is the cae then I would roll back the driver to the previous driver and see if that will take care of the problem. There are so many things that can cause problems; these are just a few that can and will. Les H :hi: lh
April 27, 201313 yr Author Found and fixed the problem :yahoo: The problem lies in the "ES-Vegetation.bgl" library file, contained in the "ES-3D / Scenery" folder. I opened that with Model Converter X and then re-saved the as a FSX bgl without making any changes (having backed up the original of course) Took a little while to compile as it contains over 3000 library objects. Job done! Dave Garwood.

April 28, 201313 yr Author Hi Kelvin, I used the latest development release of Model Converter X (MCX) by Arno Gerretsen, which can be downloaded from http://www.scenerydesign.org/development-releases/. You'll also need the FSK SDK installed to write the bgl. Download & install MCX and set it up according to the manual (http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=ModelConverterX) Find your "Earth Simulations\ES-3D\Scenery" folder. Your location will vary depending on where you originally installed the scenery. Make a backup of the "ES-Vegetation.bgl" file. Open MCX, & click the "import" button. Load the ES-Vegetation.bgl Once loaded, click the "export scenery" button. Make sure the file type is set to "FSX BGL file" and click "save" MCX will then save all the objects as separate MDL and XML files before combining them into a single BGL The MDL files will then be automatically removed, but the XML files will remain. You can safely delete these if you wish. That's it! Hopefully it will work for you as well as it did for me, just make sure you back up the file first in case anything goes wrong! Dave Garwood.

April 28, 201313 yr Thanks very much. I will give it a try. Kelvin Hi again I downloaded hte ModelConvertX and installed it OK but unfortunately my computer would not run the setup for the SDK off the Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition CD1. Is there any way you could send me the modified ES-Vegetation.bgl file? Regards Kelvin

May 1, 201313 yr Hi Dave Any chance of you sending me the modified file? Regards Kelvin Hi Dave I reveived an E-mail with a link; KelB, Dave CBFS has sent you a new personal conversation entitled "IOS grass". You can reply to this personal conversation by following the link below: xxxxxxxxx I followed the link to an Avsim page I have not seen before which had a list of conversations at the top but none seemed relevant to this issue. I am confused as to what I am supposed to do on this page. Regards Kelvin
May 1, 201313 yr Author Hi Kelvin, the link was to a private message. If you click on the envelope icon at the very top of this page you should see a message from me titled "IOS grass" Dave Garwood.
November 19, 201312 yr Hi Dave, I have the same issue. I am trying to convert to DX10 and even trying the demo of addon scenery convertor X doesn't fix this issue (although it does work on some errant textures). I am trying to convert it myself but I haven't got it right as I ended up with 3055 separate bgls which Model Convertor X didn't recombine! Please could you post some patronising instruction that a 5yo could follow :-) for exactly how to use model converter x - very confusing for us non scenery developers! A copy of the converted BGL would be gratefully received to get me up and running Rob.
