  1. I did all the updates to V2 up to V2.4. When 2.5 came out and required a full reinstallation I judged that the changes listed were not worth the effort and would wait for V3. When V3 came out I was surprised how little had been changed considering it was a completely new version and would not have made the change even if it was free let alone pay over again. V3.1 seems to be fixing issues in V3 rather than improvements. Guess I will have to see what V4 brings along.
  2. Definitely possible, the latest version of CumulusX produces cloud shadows in FSX. Kelvin
  3. I get similar results to SolRayz Tried FA at 3 different locations using: OrbX England, Rex4, TrackIR, 2560x1440 monitor for FSX with 16080x1050 monitor for PlanG. I use DX10 Fixer and I have carefully tuned my system for optimum graphics/performance balance. I don’t use buffer pools, LOD is around 6 and I normally run with unlimited frames in FSX and use NI to limit the frames to around 40 fps. I use Windows 7 OS, have an Intel I7 3.4GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM and a Nvidia GTX780 graphics card. I removed the NI frame limit and set the FSX limit to 40. I got the following results: At the worst airfield (EGLC) I set the slider to the point where FA stopped permanently showing unlimited frames and the graphs came up a little from the extreme left position. OrbX Goodwood (EGHR) without FA = 22 fps, with FA = 18 fps OrbX Shoreham (EGKA) without FA = 11 fps, with FA = 15 fps UK2000 London City (EGLC) without FA 11 fps with FA = 13 fps Returning my settings back to unlimited frames in FSX, NI limiter set to 40, and not using FA OrbX Goodwood 27 fps OrbX Shoreham 18 fps UK2000 London City 15 fps Although FA gives an advantage over limiting the frames in FSX it does not seem to be as good as my optimised settings which have been tweaked little by little over a long period. 4. Can't see how this would help if you can't produce the FPS. If you only get 5 to 10 FPS you will still get a stuttering image and TrackIR response would be poor. with 1/2 refresh rate Vsync I get no tearing at the moment so as long as I can get similar performance to what I get now I don't need Gsync I just need to be sure that a going to a higer res monitor will not kill my frame rate!!!
  5. Hi When I went to the Flight Sim show at Cosford at the weekend I was really impressed seeing FSX on large High res screens and multi-screen setups. I currently have a 22 inch 1680 x 1050 monitor and am tempted to get something bigger and therefore higer res. I am however worried that the FPS might drop alarmingly and/or the Graphics card might not be able to cope. I have a I7 2600 (not K) processor running Windows 7 64 bit, 6 GB of RAM and a 2GB Nvidia 660 graphics card. Currently I get around 40 to 50 FPS with REX, default scenery and aircraft dropping to around 30 FPS with complex aircraft on OrbX England and down to around 15 – 20 FPS around complex UK2000 or OrbX airfields. I am using Steve’s DX10 fixer and have followed all the recommended settings. With 4 bits per pixel AA my graphics card is about 25% loaded and is using 50% of the video RAM. At 8 bits per pixel AA the loading increases to about 50% with a little more video RAM used. I use a second monitor to run PlanG. I would ideally like to upgrade to a 27 inch 2560 x 1440 monitor but may have to settle for a 24 inch 1920 x 1200 one if the former would cripple my system. I prefer the 16:10 ratio over 16:9 for my other uses of the computer. Has anyone any experience of how much additional resource these resolutions would demand and what drop in FPS I might expect. I would hate to spend a fortune on a large monitor only to find out I needed to spend loads more money upgrading the graphics card or computer. Thanks Kelvin
  6. Hi Why aren't we being told about these updates - what they do and how to install them. I have been looking on Steve's sight every day since launch to see if there have been any further developments. There seemse to be no support section for this product. That was OK when he was doing it free but now it is a quite expensive add on it needs a proper support section showing the version history and what we should be doing. Kelvin
  7. Thanks for clearing that up Paul Regards Kelvin
  8. Hi Just a quick question - Should I have the "ALLOW_SHADER_30=1" line ind the config file for DX10. I read somewhere that wave animation does not work correctly if this line is included. Thanks in anticipation Kelvin
  9. Just thought I would let you know I have solved it and am back to using DX10. It seems to be a problem with the force-feedback application FS-Force. I have been setting the affinity for PlanG, TrackIR and FS-Force to use processors not used by FSX to give it maximum processing power. When I switch FS-Force back to using all/any processors then the fault disappears. Strange that it works fine with DX9??? Regards Kelvin
  10. Thanks guys. I will look out for Steves Fixer program. Regards Kelvin
  11. Hi Nick This is the airfield on the Scilly Isles scenery by Earth Simulations. Earth Simulations do payware scenery for the Channel islands of Guensey and Alderney, the Isle of Man and the Scilly Isles around the. This scenery is similar to and compatible with OrbX FTX scenery but is actually more detailed and very accurate. I use this scenery a lot. When I tried 3.2.1 I had another problem regarding the rendering of vegetation which is now fixed. Due to that problem I never actually tried taking off from the airfield so I suspect the problem also existed then. Regards Kelvin
  12. I don't understand what you mean. I want to use St Mary's. Ohter airfields I have tried work fine. Regards Kelvin
  13. I have tried DX10 following your settings and instructions several times but have always come across some problem which has caused me to go back to DX9. Last time I tried was with version 3.2.1 so I decided to have a go with version 3.2.2 to see if things have improved. I really like the VC shadow effect, the water and the general lighting effects in DX10 so I would really like to use it. I followed your instructions and settings very carefully and all was well until I tried one of my favourite airports – ES St Mary’s on the Scilly Isles. As soon as I try to take off, a short way up the runway, I get a message box saying that there had been a fatal error and FSX has to restart. This always happens regardless of the aircraft selected and never happens with DX9. Any ideas? For the moment it is back to DX9 again for me.
  14. Hi Dave I reveived an E-mail with a link; KelB, Dave CBFS has sent you a new personal conversation entitled "IOS grass". You can reply to this personal conversation by following the link below: xxxxxxxxx I followed the link to an Avsim page I have not seen before which had a list of conversations at the top but none seemed relevant to this issue. I am confused as to what I am supposed to do on this page. Regards Kelvin
  15. Hi Dave Any chance of you sending me the modified file? Regards Kelvin
  16. Hi again I downloaded hte ModelConvertX and installed it OK but unfortunately my computer would not run the setup for the SDK off the Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition CD1. Is there any way you could send me the modified ES-Vegetation.bgl file? Regards Kelvin
  17. Thanks very much. I will give it a try. Kelvin
  18. I would love to fix this issue so I could have another look at DX10. Can you give more details of the fix so I can givie it a try. Thanks Kelvin
  19. I don't think it is a file corruption issue. I came across this issue myself a few months ago and it was the main reason I abandoned DX10. I did re-install the scenery but it made no difference. I tried to raise the issue with Earth Simulations sent them similar pictures but got no response. If you could find a solution to this I might be tempted to have another look at DX10. Kelvin
  20. Select the MS Flight Simulator X profile and set Nvidia Predefined FXAA Usage to Allowed and set Toggle FXAA on or off to On. Don't bother setting the FXAA indicator On - it just puts a green square in the top left hand corner of the display to show FXAA is On It should look like the attached screenshot
  21. In the configuration tool that comes with the Vans RV-7 there is a DirectX tab which allows you to select DX9 or DX10. Are you sure you have got this set correctly? Kelvin
  22. I was plagued with 'shimmers' (I think!) switching on FXAA via NI fixed it pretty well. I did not notice any reduction in performance and the aircraft preview image was also a lot better. Kelvin
  23. I have kept retrying DX10 every time there is a new improvement and like you couldn't live with the AA performance. The last time I tried a few weeks ago I switched on the FXAA function in the Nvidia Inspector as well as 4xSGSS. This was really good and the closest I have got to DX9 AA performance. Even the preview screen looked pretty good. Give it a try there did not seem to be a performance hit as far as I could see. I really like the overall effect of the lighting and shading in DX10 but something always seems to crop up to force me back to DX9 - last time it was that the grass on the airfield in Earth Simulations St Mary's in the Scilly Isles looked like strange green cubes, quite weird. So near yet impossible to live with. Kelvin
  24. Update Following some of the suggestions I have now got much improved frame rates and very smooth stutter free operation. I just have 2 remaining issues now I still get a brief appearance of the black square replacing the propellor on the start up animation. With Aerosofts VFR London X I still get flickering trees and other objects such as teh support pylons and railings around the O2 arena. Any ideas? I am now going to use DX10 as default. I can easily live with the start up issue but would really like to sort out the flickering trees and other objects at London City. Regards Kelvin
